I thought his issue was that with Shimano you can get a Ultegra di2 Disc for ~$2000 but with Campag, your only option is Super Record EPS. A 12 speed Chorus EPS Groupset for $2000 would be killer.

Sure, but Ultegra Di2 is $1600. Campy’s effectively given up on competing with Di2 when they’ve abandoned that big meaty middle of the market....

Anyone know why they stopped doing Athena EPS?

well, when you can buy Ultegra Di2 for $1600, I don't see anyone lining up to buy a level lower from Campy for more money.

It seems like the only EPS I see is on super high-end/"cost is not an issue" builds. I tried to consider it for my latest Factor O2 build but the functionality and cost compared to Shimano just isn't there.....not even close.

Lol, here’s a question, when Athena or even Chorus EPS was available, what was it selling for? It didn’t seem to be available “online.” I think Bianchi and another mfr had it as an option, but I never saw one in the wild.

Good Luck!

It is I was answering the 'geez louizz, Campag is SO expensive', comment.

First they rebadged it to Chorus..essentially identical to Athena..then due to slow sales..just kept SR/Record. The connectors were different with Athena/Chorus EPS, not compatible with SR/Record..it was always kinda a mutt. Kinda like the 'people's Porsche' or 'Baby Benz', type thing...914 and 190...

I have a Athena EPS group on my Merckx MXLeader..BUT, bought it 7 years ago. I think it was the same $ as Record mechanical at that time just like Ultegra Di2 was 'about' the same as DA mechanical.

Record 11s EPS is still compatible, $ wise, with shimano 11s DA Di2...but unlike Campagnolo and even that other 's' brand..the future is 12s...

BTW-My Athena EPS, even with PowerTorque crank(HORRORS)..has been flawless for all these years..flawless. I 'think' I may have charged the battery 7-8 times..and ride more than a little.

I think it is important for a company like Campagnolo to understand WHO their market is. Are the typical Campag customers interested in electronic group sets?
I think Campagnolo knows who their target audience is..just like Porsche or Rolex and other 'premium' brands that don't try to be everything to everybody(like shimano and Toyota and Seiko and.......)...

Based on what Peter posted, it appears the price of Campy SR EPS is on par with DA di2 or even Sram AXS. The issue then is whether they can market a lower group to compete with Ultegra di2 at or below the listed $1600 price point that was mentioned. It appears they tried in the past with an Athena, then renamed it Chorus and finally a Record EPS group. It doesn’t appear that any of them was successful. So you may be right that they have concluded that only a SR EPS group will sell. Too bad, as I still think a Chorus type EPS group with mostly aluminum parts that was priced at the Ultegra di2 level would have sold. I know, Good Luck!
