Thanks all! Reviewed with my wife who decided an HP inkjet was the way to go after positive reviews by her sister. I wanted one of the Brother models but family recommendation trumped the Paceline on this one, can’t win them all. Key to happy marriage is learning to say “great choice” once in a while

I have a canon home office laser and it has worked well for me over 6 years (Imageclass MF series.) It is networked and can copy/print/scan with ease. You can buy third party toner cartridges for it too.

I imagine the newer models will have better capabilities.

Curious on the rationale behind inkjet vs. laser?

I was just looking at a printer a month ago. It seemed an ideal one would be:

1) Not HP - Last one was HP and that thing leaving the house was deeply satisfying. I will never get that time back diagnosing connection issues with HP support, working to get the ink to work after the nozzles got clogged, and even getting the thing to turn off was a chore that usually just involved unplugging it with some words of frustration muttered.
2) laserjet - no ink drying up
3) all-in-one so that I can scan, copy, and print
4) black so that it doesn't turn yellow from sun exposure within a couple years
5) Compact size

I wasn't able to find all 3, so I go to our empty office once every 2-3 weeks to print my backlog.

Make sure your router is set to communicate with other devices, that was my only hitch with mac/Ios stuff when printing.

My wife and I both work from home full time. We have an inexpensive Canon monochrome MFP laser printer for most of our daily printing (and copying). Works like a champ.

For color, five years ago I gave up on inkjet technology and bought a Xerox color laser. I've replaced the toner cartridges a couple of times with aftermarket (LD) cartridges and it's been fabulous. The Xerox OEM cartridges are pretty expensive...the LD cartridges are quite reasonable.

FWIW, we’ve been happy with HP inkjet and more recently a Laserjet Pro M255dw. The inkjet was in a bundle offer and low-end, but it performs well and hasn’t clogged like my previous Epson inkjet (Workforce model) and Canon all-in-one (can’t remember the model). I was also spending alot on ink for those inkjets, even though I’m not a heavy user.

The Laserjet was easy to hookup and print wirelessly, prints color and is fast. YMMV

Size, most of the lasers were very tall, she wanted small printer.

I buy at Costco for great return policy. I print a lot for work and my Epson inkjet has been great. Under $100. I also scan daily.

I have a good friend who just retired from HP's printer division. I asked him which printer to buy and he answered "a Brother". I bought a MFC-L3770CDW and it's awesome.

I'm very happy with my HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw.

It has a scanner. It's not an inkjet so it doesn't dry out quickly. I can print from my Android phone and anything else in the house. It's been great. It's wireless too.

I got it from Costco for less than $400.

Any refub experiences with Brother?

Good timing on this thread... my rapidly dying Canon inkjet is almost a decade old and I was looking at the Brother HL-L3290CDW (all-in-one color laser). @makoti - Thanks for the tip on the refurb.... I just ordered one!

The Canon worked great when new and photo quality was terrific but required messing with a million settings and fapping over test prints sucked... much better to just outsource photos on the infrequent occasions I need one.
