Different ways to connect the dots -

I was putting bikes into their places today and struck by how different, and how similar, bikes can be. There are so many ways to connect the dots on design and the majority of them make me smile.

My old fatbike and my new Moulton.

Looking forward to seeing the Kirk bilaminated Moulton tribute bike.

Now that 9t cogs are the in thing, Moulton are poised to make comeback.

If you ever need a garage to store your bikes on the east coast I have one for you. How do they ride? Quite an awesome look.

This one was my wife’s—it was amazing as a loaded bike—Uber stable.—get the front rack if you need to haul tools with you around the track.

The moulton with the rack looks great - so form driven yet, such an engineers bike at the same time . Yes, the fat bike and the Moulton put you in the same position (that is to have fun!) but doing so in two very different ways!

I love both, but that fat bike holds a special place in my heart. Ohhh to ride a Kirk hardtail!!!

I had an old style original Moulton in college, as a result of befriending Sheldon Brown, who was fanatical about Moultons, and being a student of David Gordon Wilson, likewise.

The rear fork was unsupported by seatstays and so it tended to bend under the torque applied by the chain. From the back, the rear wheel would angle towards the left. Mine eventually cracked, I repaired it, it cracked again, and I sold it to Dave as a back-up parts bike.

I also had a Raleigh 20 folder (still have it) which was my original off road bike. Sheldon and I rode them in the woods, beating the crap outta ourselves with 36 spoke steel 20" wheels. We were young.

I brought the Raleigh back home after purchasing it on the Moulton, folded! That bike was a camel in terms of carrying stuff.

The modern ones look mega cool. Definitely want a ride report from Mr. Kirk! Is it laterally stiff and vertically compliant?
