That’s scary. People can be so ignorant and irresponsible.

That's, uh, criminal. No other word for it.

Had a good friend in college killed like that. Standing on a street corner on the edge of campus.

Honestly, how could any driver think that's safe to drive like that? What an f'ing imbecile.

Only theory I have heard that makes sense at all was that he didn't know the load had shifted. OTOH, mirrors.

He had previously hit another cyclist, who was trying to warn the injured cyclist.

When I have driven with a load in an open truck, I constantly monitor the load to make sure it hasn't shifted. This guy is going to get a ticket for his negligence.

The only way that load shifted is if it was tied and mounted over the top of the cab. It was never overhanging over the back. Total bull****

I'm pretty sure that's the way it was loaded with the wood up over the cab. If that's not true, that guy should be under observation so he doesn't hurt himself. Those pickups with short beds like that are stupid. I think my Prius can take a bigger load. Although the newest one will not move with the rear door open, which is a bummer.

But then when it shifted a load like that would rock the truck and thud. No way not to notice. More like didn't care.

that photo to me defies logic and physics.

i fail to understand how you could drive any more than 5 or maybe 10mph with the load canti'd out that far and not well secured in the bed, as soon as that catches some wind, it has to fly out of the bed?

however that came to be, agreed. criminal negligence to operate a vehicle loaded like that on the road.

it sure looks like he wouldn't have made it too much further without losing some of that load. Once one bundle came loose, it probably would all have been on the road. There is no way to make some people care about others.

It would have been good if someone had done something about this before he hurt people

That load must have been over the cab of the truck originally instead of over the tailgate. It clearly wasn’t secured properly either. As somebody with a pick up and who frequently hauls lumber and tools this is ridiculous.

As stated above these full cab short box trucks are not suitable for hauling things when those doing so do not have a clue how to use them. It is literally impossible not to notice six to eight feet of lumber hanging off the side of your truck bed. Especially when it slid off of the roof first. The driver must have been inebriated or high to keep driving like that.
