“Vintage” Stout hub service

I’ve got a 1999 Specialized S Works Hardtail. I bought it a couple weeks ago and have gone through the bike. Only thing left is truing the wheels and servicing the hubs.

The hubs feel fine. I just want to open it up and repack them. But I can’t seem to find any tutorials online.

Anyone know the specs on these? Are they cup/cone or sealed bearings? I’ve got basic hub tools. Do I need any special/proprietary tools?

Thanks.

1st thing you need to do is to remove those rubber seals from the side and then you will find out what it is. IMO big chance is just regular cones.

If the front is like mine, the skewer is the axle. Pretty sure the skewer goest right through the inner race of a sealed bearing. Mine came equipped with a standard Shimano rear hub.

Edit: looking again, I think it’s different than what I had. Mine had alloy ends, not rubber.

Thirdgenbird was right. For posterity’s sake:

Pry off the alloy caps. Sealed bearings inside. They spun smooth so I didn’t bother servicing/replacing them.
