105 vs Rival AXS Pricing?

I am wondering if anyone knows about Group pricing?
I am talking to a local shop to build me up a frame that they have in stock, first he quoted me a price for 105, then in turns out that the frame only takes a electronic groupset, so he quoted me a price with the new Rival AXS, it is $1000 more, is the Rival really that much more then 105?

Sounds about right. 105 is priced comparable to rival mechanical shifting. But to take the jump from 11 speed mechanical to 12 speed electronic is definitely a premium.

I added up about $1200 for a rival axs group. With 105, be sure you're comparing apples to apples, with both being hydraulic disc brake. Also consider that you're comparing soon to be outdated 11 speed to 12 speed. Switching to electronic is not cheap, but I won't be going back to mechanical.

$1000 more is too much, but there is no 105 Di2 for comparison.

Yeah I am definitely comparing the 105 mechanical hydraulic disc brake group to the Rival AXS electronic group.
I understand that it might not be the same performance wise but i am comparing those 2 as far as pricing goes (at least I am trying to)

There's extremely likely Force/Red parts on the quote because it's all they can get- double check that. Rival AXS is really not a lot of money, but availability is *terrible*. If it's not that, I don't know where most of the 1000$ is coming from.

I triple and quad checked he is definitely quoting me Rival AXS and he has it in stock or can get it for sure.
I think the price bump should be $500, yes? I guess it's covid pricing.
Not much I can do either take it knowing I am getting ripped off or walk away (but not ride away on a new bike)

What are the absolute numbers you are being quoted? Is it the Rival group with or without the power meter? The MSRP on a Rival groupset 2x without a power meter is $1420. With a power meter is $1640. I can't find MSRP for an R7020 group, but they appear to be going for around $950 right now, but I remember buying one for about $600 2 years ago. Is installation cost different for one vs the other?

So at baseline, it could be around $500, but if it's the rival group with a power meter, or there's any sort of discount on the Shimano group, that could quickly jump to around $1000.

So the absolute numbers were $3500 for the complete bike out the door with 105.
Everything being the same i.e. Frame, wheels, cockpit but the with the Rival AXS he wants $4500 and is telling me that the grand is because of the electronic group costs that much more.
No power meter included.
If I want that bike I have to go with the Rival (or a higher electronic groupo) because after he quoted me the price with the 105 build he told me that he realized the frame is electronic only (which I verified with the manufacturer).
To clarify he has it at the shop at the moment as a frameset, and he said I can get it out the door for you with 105 for that price.
I called him back the next day and said ok I want to buy it, that's when he said, oh sorry that frame electronic only so if you want it I'll do $4500 with Rival.
Sorry if it's convoluted, I am trying to explain it as best that I can.

Are the wheels different with Rival? Not all wheels support XDR freehubs, it's possible that price includes a wheel upgrade too.

I guess in theory it's possible.
But I don't know, he just told me on both builds that he will put on basic wheels, and when I asked him why the price jumped that much he said it's because that group cost that much more and didn't mention the wheels.

I'd compare the specs to the $4800 atheos comp. This is really not a great time to buy any bike, with all of the shortages. The atheos comp frame is not the same as the $3300 model used on the higher level models, so you're not getting a build kit for $1500.

Someone on the sram axs owners web page posted about getting his new atheos comp, so some are already out there.

105 7020 - $696
Rival AXS 2x WITH Power meter - $1639. Without Power meter - $1420.

The price from the BikeRadar article is WAAAYYY off - just look at other region prices; there's no way that USD would be lower than the GBP amount.

For the sake of completeness, according to Shimano, the 105 R7020 disc brake groupset is priced at £799 / €994.49 / $696 / AU$1,179 at RRP.

The only way that the $1000 upcharge from 105 Hydraulic to Rival AXS is justified is if the frame's original manufacturer has set MSRPs for all build options on the frame. The retail price difference between 105 and Rival AXS, even with accounting for the new freehub, should be no more than $500.

If you want the frameset, just purchase it outright and then get the work done elsewhere. If you're going AXS then it will take a good shop no more than 2 hours of work to get everything together.
