I see a market opportunity here. Wouldn't the ideal solution include some kind of ankle wrap / closure to prevent water seeping in?

You mean like every other overshoe that isn't Rivendell's?

TBH, I didn't realize these came in different sizes (bought them used from a friend). They must be size C, based on the Riv website info and how large my feet are.

But they're super easy to put on/take off. They stay dry. And they're made in the US. And will last forever. So for commuting in all but the worst rain, they're my preferred option.

If you're okay riding a platypus, then you're fine wearing these. Such a classic Riv accessory .

I definitely need ankle intrusion protection, though.

This is the only answer I have.

Also noting that they work best with no leg warmers - the leg warmer will get wet and wick water down.

With a bare calf (knee warmer is ok) they will keep your feet dry in the nastiest of conditions.

The silicone with buttons are also HEAPS easier to live with than the old latex version. Last longer too.

To close the loop here, I decided to go with the silicone velotoze. For my usage, the latex ones have been pretty good so I'm hoping the silicone will be better. I'll report back on longevity, as they get a fair amount of use in the shoulder seasons before the winter shoes come out.

I have a pair of POC ?AVIP? overshoes that are pretty thin and VERY orange

They're a few years old now and not so waterproof, but they do keep the big stuff out for a while

That first drip of water down your sock is some kinda special no matter what you're wearing
