OT: What do you collect?
Hung out with some friends last weekend. One of them has a nice collection of vintage rock posters. Another friend has a coin collection that easily surpasses my bike collection in terms of value. Another friend has a thing for vintage cookbooks. Anyone collecting some unusual stuff out there?
No bikes. That pretty much describes all of us. |

I don't collect anything, or at least I mostly try not to.
I could say I try to collect money. Most other things you collect are a waste of money. The closest thing I could come to is guitar pedals. I have more than I need.. the # will go down though when I get motivated to sell stuff again. (Requires a trip out to UPS/FedEx/USPS, etc.. which I'm avoiding.) And that's not really a collection.. it's more like a pile of stuff I bought experimentally trying to figure out a set of stuff that worked together well. There's a cap in that I can only fit a certain block of stuff together in a useful way that I can carry out somewhere. |

I wouldn't say I'm a "collector", but own a few torsion pendulum clocks. These are mechanical spring wound clocks that run a long time on a single winding, which I find fascinating. Many will run run 1 - 3 years between windings, and a few of them are essentially perpetual motion machines, and will run nearly forever without the user rewinding them. (Okay, maybe not forever - they have to be cleaned and adjusted every 20 years or so).

I’m not much of a collector, but I enjoy spending time with people who are passionate collectors. I find their genuine enthusiasm super contagious and get a kick out giving someone the chance to explain their hobbies or passions!!
An ex neighbor has the most fantastic comic book and figurine collection - I can’t tell the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek but he spent hours telling me how he got his hands on the rarest trinkets. Hundreds of pieces, all in immaculate condition, most still in the original boxes!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't collect them but as a result of my work I have an assortment of unusual mobile phones from over the years.

Mainly NFL and NHL. Though I may burn my Lions jerseys soon.

As I understand, the Clock of the Long Now (sometimes call the Millenium Clock) doesn't have a final design yet, but in the current design apparently incorporates a torsion pendulum as part of its mechanism.
Currently, the the longest running clock that has never needed winding is the Beverly clock, which has been running since 1864, with only a few interruptions (it is stopped to be cleaned, or when it is moved, for example). |

I don't "collect" anything but if I am into something, I usually have several of whatever it is. Prob the closest thing to a collection of something I have is knives.
I've got a bunch from my father and grandfather that just sit in a box I take out and mess with every once in a while. And I buy a new knife every few months because I get bored of the ones I have. Strangely enough, pretty much everything I buy is a 2.75" - 3.5" blade folding knife. So I have prob 2 or 3 dozen knives that are essentially the same thing

I guess I'd have to admit that I collect vintage guitars. Not a huge collection but always a desire for more.
