Cielo Stainless SE Modern Classique

I’ve wanted this bike for a long time. At one time, it was owned by both Cornfed and Phoenix (below). There weren’t too many of these made, so I’m reluctant to call a “production” bike, but it’s not custom, so …

Fruitless quest for many years. Then, out of the blue, my buddy Prototoast sends me an email with a Pinkbike listing asking “wasn’t I looking for this frame?” (Thanks!)

Hell yeah! It’s got everything I want in a modern classic steel racing frame: level top tube, 1 1/8 head tube, mech shifting, and room for 28c tires. And stainless to boot!

It’s got a bunch of neat touches: the etched logo on the seat tube (and much fainter near the BB) brass head badge, etched insignia, the name at the top of the ST cluster, and Chris King’s autograph on the chain stays.

The way I’ve got it set up: Pacenti rims laced to CK hubs, DA 9100 and Ultegra drive train, Praxis Zayante carbon crank, S-Works seat post and Berk Lupina saddle, ENVE cockpit, Whiskey fork.

Only had time to take it for a brief ride before bad weather and a nasty virus hit, but it’s REALLY zippy, springy, and light! A keeper for sure!

Beautiful! I wouldn't mind swinging a leg over a 54cm version of one of those!

Handsome! In the third pic, is that a separate collar or part of the frame? And on my phone, it looks like theres a dark area where the top of the seatstay meets the seat tube. What am I seeing?

Thanks for all the feedback above.

That’s the seat collar. Part of the frame. Here’s another pic with gloomy indoor light. (Credit to Cornfed for the rustic looking pic. Nice contrasts)

One more thing I forgot to mention: IRC Formula Pro 28c in front and Conti GP 5000 28c rear. Tire clearance is a biggie for me. Less than 28c is a no-go for me. I would prefer 30c, actually. At 195ish and with the roads in the East Bay being really rutted from the recent rain, running less than 28c just isn’t happening.

Hard not to like this. Everything goes together so well. I wasn't aware they Cielo made these so now I can add another bike to my bucket list. Enjoy!
