Philly Bike Expo - Oct 27/28
who's going this year?
i've been a bunch of times, and IMO, this show is way better than NAHBS, or at least the one NAHBS i've been to. List of exhibitors this year is pretty impressive as well. If the weather is going to be any good - any interest in a ride?

I went to both the Philly show last year and NAHBS in Hartford. I agree, it's at least as good!

Since i now live in the philly burbs I have zero excuses not to go. I would love to do a ride as well. If folks are interested in riding near the venue I would recommend an early start Sunday morning, and ride out on the schukyl river trail for a while and then see what you can find. Riding downtown would be sketchy for sure.

I'll be there! Definitely down for a ride. There's normally some shop-organized activities to look out for too, like parties at Transport Cycles. PBE is always a good time, and I agree, more fun than NAHBS.

I'm not familiar with the whole thing, but the section taking you out of town is paved. It's used by a lot of commuters. Riding up that and then out into fairmount park on a sunday morning might be decent.

I'll be leading a seminar on one of the days. I don't remember which one though.

The SRT is pretty awful. Too many people, too flat...it's pretty I suppose. There are plenty of routes to ride through town if people want to see the city.
I live in Media right now and will be riding in to the event. Anyway - if folks want to ride, I'd suggest going through town, then through west philly, and doing either cobbs creek, or going through heinz (make it a gravel bike). Forbidden trail off of the SRT is nice...and goes all the way to Lafayette. Basically the whole SRT is paved...there's a strip that's packed dirt and boards, but you can do it on a road bike. I would be in to taking some folks up forbidden drive and up to chestnut hill if anyone's interested. You'll want 28c tires at minimum. I've done it on 23c, but why make things hard?

Bumping this up!
After riding and chatting with Peter Weigle for 25 or 30 miles at the Nutmeg Nor'easter in Connecticut yesterday, plus re-looking at the builder's who will be there, and thinking I can manage the 2.5 hour drive each way, I think I'm going on Sunday. I would love to do a ride, and would probably be willing to leave early enough to make it for one, especially if there's some dirt and gravel involved. SPP |

Sounds like you have the most insider knowledge than anyone else so far. I'm down for a ride. Could do either day.

Hey gang.
I'm there for both days. I fly in Saturday morning and will be at the show by noon hopefully. I found a few very interesting Belgian Cafes in the vicinity so I will be consuming Trippels Saturday night. Feel free to join. I'm making a few stops on this trip so light travel is in order so no bike for me. |
