The Bicycle Industry gets it.

I think Einstein said bikes are the best.

I appreciate the sentiment. I guess posting some kind of support on social media is slightly better than doing nothing.

This isn't politics. It's expressing empathy and acknowledging shared humanity. It's decision time. Whose side are YOU* on? . . . *The rhetorical YOU, not mtechnica specifically.

Definitely a debate worth having. The comments on the second link are pretty edifying. The first link seems like its connected to the OP, which comes across as self-congratulating. Yawn.

I genuinely hope you're right. I've had this same feeling before after mass shootings yet we still haven't advanced in any meaningful way. I hope this is different.

Unfortunately I think it will become political. Everything has become political. My two lines someone will read into it and think I'm trying to say something political or disagree.

It's up to us...
We can choose whether or not empathy is political.
We don't have to agree on next steps to acknowledge where we are. Sometimes when we say 'it's getting political' let's stand down, we are preventing the very conversations that can move us forward, collectively. One of the things I like most about cycling is that we can share the experience from all backgrounds and that the cycling connection can create the trust in each other to have more challenging conversations in good faith. I respect the Mods difficult job to keep a public square civil, but in this moment we are all in the same shelter-in-place, buildings burning world. We won't solve those problems here, but it's not 100% comfortable to pretend that's not a shared reality.

And now there is a blacklash about the black square posts because when people that are out there searching for information their feet is all black squares so this is actually hindering the cause. BLM activists are urging people to delete their pictures. Last edited by R3awak3n; 06-02-2020 at 11:06 AM. |

Anyways sorry - kinda - for the blasé comment. I've been out protesting in the streets. I've been voting and trying to get other people to vote. I just hope this doesn't end with people posting on the internet a few times and patting themselves on the back saying "well, I tried!". THAT is white privilege right there, and don't get me started about the pearl clutching over the riots. Talk about not getting it. I'm sure some mod is going to swoop in and lock this in case someone's feelings get hurt god forbid. Nice conversation while it lasted. |
