I've got a Pedro's one of those, which wasn't very good, and a Morgan Blue one which is better. But actually, I like to take the cardboard tube from an empty paper towel roll, and slice it lengthwise. Just slip it over the stay. Your chainstays are shorter. You may be able to get by with an empty toilet paper roll, if you can find one.

Well...if the bike is THAT dirty, take the chain off and clean it as well..snap-links are your friend.

I sometimes hang my chain from a toe strap wrapping around the brake pad, at least the chain is out of the way and more manageable

2018 list of some options.
I've always meant to get one. Some are cheap enough that a DIY one isn't worth the trouble. Think I'd go for one with some length for the rare occasion when you'd want to shift the RD. https://cyclingtips.com/2018/01/best...in-clean-tool/ |

I have one I use when traveling and I put the bike in the car with the wheels off.
Got it years ago at Performance or Nashbar. (Same company now) When I had my Firefly built, I had them add a chain hanger peg. |

The shop I used to work at used busted front hubs as dummy hubs for cleaning

Gonna say it...dirty chains like that wear cogsets and chainrings unnecessarily quickly..now I'll take off my old fart/sounding like yer dad', hat...

The missus has one [edit: pretty sure it's the Pedro's] that she used when packing her S&S-coupled bike. Just the other day she found a video of someone cleaning a bike with the rear wheel removed and the chainkeeper-thingie in place and she asked "hey, don't we have one of these?"
So not only do I now have to go down to the basement to rummage through the S&S cases looking for the chainkeeper, but I'm probably going to have to clean Ms. Thing's bike also! |
