Our Tuesday Night Gravel rides began again this past Tuesday. I'm not sure how long we'll continue to hold group rides due to COVID-19. I think I may ride this coming Tuesday and then go it alone for a while. I seriously doubt we'll be gathering after next Tuesday's ride for a post-ride beer. Take care, my friends.

Normally I wouldn't worry but it's the snot rockets that have some of us concerned. It's easy for a person to say they'll drop back before they unload but will they?

Social Distancing 2-Wheel Style

From yesterday afternoon's ride with the temp in the upper 40s (8ºc), mostly sunny and light winds. A beautiful day to be out riding.

Who Let The Dogs Out!?

This gravel route has become a favorite of mine. it's just the right distance at a little more than 54 miles with a good mix of winding, hilly roads - and a few pups.

Who Let the Dogs Out, Part 2

There's a group out of Northfield, MN (Cannon Valley Velo Club) that I ride with on Tuesday night and Saturday morning. We've put our group rides on pause for the foreseeable future due to the pandemic. One of the riders in our group had an idea for continuing with our rides where we all ride the same route but individually, sharing photos we take along the way. Some ride the route clockwise while others ride it counterclockwise. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Take Me to the River

It's been a few months since I've made my way to the river bottoms but now that the floodwaters have receded, it was time to check them out again. They were mostly in very good shape with the exception of some areas of deep sand that made for slow-going. Otherwise, lots of fun!

More of the Cannon Valley Velo Club making-the-best-of-a-bad situation today on our solo group ride out of Northfield, Mn. We each individually ride a prescribed route, either clockwise or counterclockwise and share photos at the end of our ride via social media. It's actually lots of fun and a great way to keep the camaraderie of the group together during this pause of our normal rides.

The Heywood Was Canceled? No Way!

A handful of us decided to ride the inaugural (but canceled due to the pandemic) Heywood ride. I went into the ride with a little bit of concern for the distance we were doing: 110 miles (177 km). That's not an issue at all on my road bike but the furthest I've ridden my gravel bike has been 62 miles. It worked out well. Rain was a concern for the latter part of the ride but it never materialized. We couldn't have scripted a better day weather-wise.🥂

It's amazing how smooth some of these dirt/gravel roads are in some of these photos. Better than a lot of remote paved roads around here and gravel roads I ride are usually potholed and washboarded.

Mike - there were some rougher patches as well on yesterday's route but just a small percentage of what we rode. It's tough to beat a nice gravel road.

Memorial Day Ride

Warm weather was slow to arrive in the Minneapolis area this spring but it looks like it's here to stay. It felt nice to be out riding in it yesterday.

Gravel Century + 1

Here's some video from last Saturday's 101-mile gravel ride on a hilly, picturesque route from Northfield to Welch, MN and back.
