Try swapping a rear wheel first. Doubt it's both pedals. Otherwise BB(press fit)...

Recently my bike has developed a clicking noise when pedaling. But only under load, i.e., when pedaling going up incline, regardless how low the incline is. The noise doesn't happen (mostly) when pedaling downgrade or flat, and while coasting

Just making a footwear joke.

Got one not nearly as loud. Bike shop said it doesnt happen when they ride it cause it takes a mile or so before it starts. Not the post, skewers etc. Same spot every rotation. When the bike came back all the chainring bolts were stripped save one. Frustrating cause I dont have a bb tool.

I agree completely. Grease the rails and tighten per spec

Had a similar issue. Took the bottom bracket, thorough clean and regrease and it still did it. Wheels and pedals; nope. Then it hit me...chain ring bolts! Quiet as a church mouse now.

If so I’d have to think it’s the bottom bracket.
We should state a kitty to make each of these 'find the click' threads interesting. Paceline gets half (fundraising, ya know), the other half goes to the correct guess.

I've got $5 that says its the pedals and a quick clean/relube of the spindles fixes it.

I doubt this is the culprit, but an anecdotal story of note:

I had a similar noise. Swapped out and double checked everything before a last ditch BB replacement.

Ended up being a CO2 cartridge in my saddlebag "thwacking" my seatpost.

Hope you get your issue sorted.

That is crazy loud. I'm betting it's the seatpost, since noises from that area depend on weight shifting side to side rather than directly to amount of load. Simple test is standing up while pedaling. If it goes away, that's your culprit. If it gets worse, it could be headset.

If it's BB, with that kind of noise, I bet you'd actually feel it it through the pedals. General rule of thumb--rule out EVERYTHING else before tackling the BB.

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I guess the loud noise from the video elicit something that annoys all cyclists.

I feel I have to deliver a verdict now, not that I can live with the noise anyway. But thanks to all the suggestions I have many paths to experiment before the BB

Try torquing the pedals to spec. That is not something I typically do; typically, I just hand tighten with the hex wrench. However, I recently had to torque the pedals on a new crankset to keep one of the pedals from clunking. The clunking was only noticeable while riding -- I couldn't replicate the sound on the repair stand.

That is pretty loud. I hate this stuff too drives me nuts. I can tell ya one time this happens to me and I could not figure it out for the life of me till I did. The way I figured it out was by entering a cyclocross race, made the hole shot and was the first one up a long climb to a tight 180deg turn. It was so steep I had to stand on the pedals and while torquing the bars the next thing I knew I was looking at the sky through my handle bars as I hit the deck. The stem broke right off!

Another time this was happening on my MTB and could not figure it out I took it to the shop. The mechanic could not figure it out either so he stripped every part off of it to bare frame and found that when torquing the frame he heard the same click indicating there must be a crack in the frame some where so the frame was replaced.

Anyway good luck!

The video won't play for me so I might be missing something....but...

- does it make he noise when out of the saddle?

- do you have new shoes? Are there unused capture nuts in the sole of the shoes that are sliding back and forth?

- will it make the noise if riding in street shoes?

- does the bike have a braze-on or clamp on front derailleur?

Chainring bolts. Remove. Clean. Regrease and reinstall.

Try that
