I don't do specialized cycling-specific sunglasses; I also don't do expensive sunglasses.

I'm currently a big fan of Suncloud. They've got a broad variety of frames. They'll basically run you about $50 for a set, although REI sells them as does Amazon, so you can get occasional discounts.

Pretty durable. Smith - Oakley durability. I run with a Protone and the retention system messes with most glasses if the arms are straight. If the arms curve downward the interference with retention system is less.

Tifosi Podium also works well with the Protone.

Rudy Project

I bought a pair of Oakley Radar Path EV road Prizm to see what all the press was about and found them unremarkable. So sold them. FWIW viewed side-side I preferred the trail Prizm over the road.

I stayed with my RP Rydons

Anyone run the Pivlock Arena Max with a Protone? Retention - arm interference or top of lens - bottom of front of helmet contact?

I'm riding Speedtraps in the this https://www.ride100percent.com/produ...and-smoke-lens

I'm sensitive to optical quality and so far so good with these for me. Pro-Deal so price was right. Ultimately I bought them for riding in the woods and winter for more coverage as my eyes water at about 55 degrees.

Adjustable temples fit my Kask Mojito and Protone as well as a Viantor helmet from Abus.

The nose piece is a bit weird in that you adjust for a skinnier nose with the little inserts provided. Hope they stay in place.

PS All the cool kids are on 100% get with the program

someone asked me what the difference is between Rydon and Rydon II...

the IIs are for narrow faces (which I definitely have). they fit me so much better than the standard Rydons.

I wear them with a mojito. I think the retention is similar, they work fine. I think the arms on the Smiths are shorter than many glasses.

Interesting video. I would have liked a bit more of a comparison on the quality of the optics and if both pairs perform equally well when being impacted but still really interesting.

This is kinda unusual but I find my standard army issued eye pros very comfortable. they are buckshot proof from distance >5m and come with a strap so no matter how vigorously you shake your head it will stay on. you can get clean, orange, yellow and dark lenses for those. It comes with clear and dark default. I've had Oakley stuff but I really can't tell the difference between them. they are relatively cheap on eBay since there are many surplus as army issue. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...awfly&_sacat=0

I think that's the rub. They look cool and all, but are you going to have a billion shards of plastic in your eye if you crash? Not worth the risk IMO.

BTW, I bought a pair of cheepo knock-off jawbreakers from alibaba just for giggles and they were garbage. Basically unwearable. So, from that perspective, not all knock-offs are equal!

Recommend me some new shades

I ended up picking up a pair of smith attack Max and Roka gp-1 off of steep and cheap for the price of a new pair of Rokas. I may keep one both or none depending on my initial impressions.

Thanks for everyone’s input here!

I like “Smith Optics,” never had any problems with customer services, always have had good luck with them. I did use Oakley back in the day.

Same as any knockoff. You may get a useful thing. Or you may get a useless thing in the shape of a useful thing. And supporting counterfeits, knockoffs and stolen IP isn't exactly great.
