I know it's discontinued, but can't sing enough praises about the Rapha Transfer jacket from 5-6 years ago. Sometimes I think this the peak of Rapha design: stretchy sidepanels for breathability and Primaloft insulation and a large back pocket you could stuff the jacket into:

Right now the modern replacement is probably the Arc'teryx Atom LT. And if you plan on doing some light riding, then go with their Proton FL.

But if you're opting for down for packability or weight--while deprioritizing breathability--then any of the aforementioned down jackets work (MH Ghost Whisperer), and so does Uniqlo.

@veloo...basic 'duh' question but have you washed/dried your synthetic jacket per the manufacturers instructions? That should re-loft your jacket.

I agree that down isn't the best material for this purpose, I'd take a look at some windproof/hardshell fleeces that you can layer underneath. If you're dead set on down...seems like there are a bunch of options listed already or Pearl Izumi Rove line makes some lifestyle-looking pieces (no down though).

I think the ONLY thing that has been posted in here that really fits the bill is the Rapha down jacket. Looks good on and off bike, has good fill, isn't ridiculously priced....

I have the atom lt and on the bike, those big side panels really let in a lot of air. Anything below 50 it's not that warm. PLUS, standing around below 50 wasn't warm enough for me. I had it bikepacking last year and a long sleeve baselayer and the atom LT had me shivering below 45.

Off the bike, it's a fantastic jacket and a very reliable mid-layer or active outer layer (just not on a bike...or below 45ish).

Go light and packable using something with 800 fill down. The Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer is great for packability and warmth. The sleeve length is good for on the bike too.

I have used both a Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer and the Montbell Ex Light Anorak.

The Ghost Whisperer on TABR and the Montbell for lessor jaunts.

Neither are cycling specific and probably not good enough for purists. The Monbell is super light and very warm. At the end of a long hard day in the saddle, it retains the heat.

If you can find Thindown, a woven down, this stuff is wonderful. Not sure if there are any cycling specific jackets.

I am sorry. This NOT the most interesting cyclist in the world.
How can he be if he mounts on a disc brake bike?

Here's another option. Zip off sleeves, nice pocket options etc...

And no mention of weight or packed size.

The new ornot long sleeve jersey is made of a very similar material to R1:

fyi - patagucci's R1 is called "grid fleece," and pry much all the techwear companies make it- im partial to rab's "power grid" fleece meself. probably because i hate patagonia.
