Thumbs up

Each person who I know pedaled the Solvang Century says it is a spectacular event. Bucket list item, for sure.

Absolutely...the Gold Standard of all Centuries, IMO.

Do you say this because of the route, the amenities (aid stations, post-ride meal, etc.), something else, or some combination of these?

While I didn't do the century, the Solvang ride was one of the best rides I did when I was living down in San Diego. Highly recommended!

Aaaaand after an unusually warm, dry winter, the weather for the Solvang Century this weekend looks like some of the worst I've seen all year. Cold, chance of showers, and 20 mph wind. FML.

If it's raining the morning the ride starts, I'm going back to the hotel and go back to bed. I ain't as hardcore as the old days.

That was the worst ride I've ever done. Terrible route, terrible weather, terrible food at the rest stops and my brain just flipped out.

How do you even call a ride scenic when most of the time you're on the edge of a highway getting buzzed by cars at 60 mph or going through the dumpy outskirts of dumpy cities?

The first 37 miles was cold and wind in your face. Things turned around at mile 50. The #2 aid station was supposed to be "just water." Lots of folks were demoralized at SAG 2. The rest of the SAG stops were good. I think the organizer, Planet Ultra, did a good job.

No electrolytes at SAG stops. They did have cold Coke cans at stations 4 and 5, which was awesome. The conditions were just very difficult in the morning through mile 48. Though I had a good time, doubt I will do Solvang again.
