A travel photographer's wonderful images of English landscape

As for me, I’m a transplant. I moved here from Australia. After the initial novelty wore off, that of being in England, it assumed a sort of shrugging familiarity — the usual shops, takeaways, a downbeat seafront, rough around the edges but with not-too-inconvenient access to Gatwick and Heathrow and flights to more interesting places.

But a year of exploring St. Leonards and its surrounds, camera in hand, chasing the light, has changed all that. It’s brought home the truth that you don’t need to board a plane and jet off to the far side of the world to experience a sense of travel or the romance of difference. It lies waiting on your doorstep — if you look...

Did Rapha have anything to do with the project? They're sure getting a nice plug.

Strange, I read that entire story, admired all the images, and not once did I think of Rapha.

Must have been because the author did not seem to be the least bit pretentious - not once did he mention African hair goat gloves or Tibetan yak leather shoes.

I was being a little facetious. He's in Rapha gear in almost every photo. I liked the photography and the narrative. But what really got me was the ability to see the beauty in the very mundane landscape. Forced to live locally, and coming up with a new appreciation for it.

I enjoyed his photographs so much that I didn't hold the Rapha jersey against him.

I'm really glad to see that there's another dinosaur besides me who still uses paper maps!

Great Photo Essay from the south of England

This from the NYT. They can get things right from time to time…

Not better than Velotel’s contributions here, but some thoughtful discussion of how he got the pictures, which might be useful to some. Anyway, cool.
