I know absolutely nothing about Rivendale. Not from that era.
The only point that I will make is that I have ridden stiff (read: uncomfortable for more that 2 hrs) carbon frames and very comfortable (read: day long comfort) carbon frames.

To paint all carbon frames in one stroke is to not give credit to leaps in carbon design that has happened over the years.

No offense taken. I own modern bikes made of steel (Hampsten Strada Bianca,) and carbon, (Hampsten Maglia Rosa.) The carbon rides just as comfortably as the steel frame. Of course many carbon frames are stiff and ride uncomfortably, but that isn't always the case.
Speaking bias, the point I was trying to make is GP's claims are riddled with bias. I don't think espousing his biases (and denigrating the bikes his potential customers already own,) is an effective way to market his bikes.

This may make it to top 10 viewed thread ever, and there's no mention of Lance or Rapha!

Don't think I can add much to this conversation but will add this pic of my '97 Road Standard. Still going strong, albeit as a 650B wheeled D2R2/Gravel bike. Here it is in it's previous long/low/go-fast mode:

It's a tough world out there and we've probably bought a new buggy whip for a dead horse on this topic but I'll leave it at this ...I would never cut an employee's wages by 40% nor would I allow them to take a voluntary cut in pay. I believe in paying people well for their work. If you're struggling with payroll, you're doing it wrong. Responsbility can lead to some tough choices and I wish rivendell well, there are some tough decisions to be made

Yeah but this is squarely in the "arguing about retrogrouchism" circle on the Venn diagram. If there's any kind of navel gazing Paceline specializes in, it's this.

Oh come on. If the choice is cut pay or no pay, you do the former first. That's literally the responsibility leading to tough choices you ended this comment with.

Sweet! Most of my bikes don't show enough post to make that work, but it would look great on the XO-1.

I would say the priority would be to reduce staff, not cut pay across the board. Having one less employee is probably more cost effective, since you don't have to pay their benefits. Not to mention the huge loss of morale in reducing everyone's pay.

It would be better to lay people off than to let them "volunteer" a 40% pay cut, especially while still paying the owner a salary. California Unemployment pays ~60-70% of prior salary. They might make MORE money being laid off, and now when they do get laid off, they are going to get unemployment at like like 50% of what they originally made.

I agree with peanut.
