Franklin County local here - The recent update from Sandy & Mary is spot on. I have been riding D2 roads all summer. I will ride the long mystery on 650b - Terrene Elwood 47c tubeless. These are my go-to tires since late spring. I see no reason to change.
As noted in the update conditions are soft - but not New England spring mud season soft. Here is what I think is most important.... Washouts, washboard and sinkholes abound. Even paved descents call for extra attention, with lots of debris washed across the road, especially in corners. There will be mud holes to avoid on 4th class roads and some recently graded roads will have mud but I am not expecting this to be a muddy ride. Wet and gritty - yes. |

I couldn't fit full fenders over these tires and didn't want them for this one ride. Those cut up jobs should be good to keep some of the muck off me, probably going to be well over 9 hours out there. Rear bag is empty for food and maybe a vest for early morning rain. I want very little in my jersey pockets.
I think the bike is ready. The legs are ready. Here we go! |

What are your thoughts on fenders, based on current conditions? Run them or no? |

Based on current forecast I would run them. I don't have full fenders big enough but I will have a strap on rear fender.

if it rains, you are going to be wet anyways... a little mud is not going to hurt anyone but getting crap stuck btw fender and tire might.
And if you are running half fenders, your feet will still get wet. Maybe an ass saver to not get mud in your ass and back |

My goal is to keep my saddle/ass/crotch as dry as I can and the chance for said area to dry out later. That many miles in rain soaked chamois won't feel great. The rest of the bike/me I don't care as much.
