The question is does the ship have a bike path while at sea. All kikdding aside,
best picture of bike in action to date.

On a serious note, what if any exra precation do you take from exposing it to all that salt air

KEITH, A question for you as well, which CSI do you prefer, the sloper or non sloper.

Gothard -- You certainly have two special CSi's. Do you have the serial numbers for them? BTW, have you built up your 20th anniversary CSi yet?

i was told it was a custom frame

when i had it built
my lbs owner said
it was as if it were

so even though it wasn't custom built for me
intentionally...
...it seems so practically...

It could be something other than the TT/ST lengths making it custom. Chainstays, angles, HT, bb drop come to mind. My '02 catalog says 55cm road geometry was:
73/73 angles, 55/55 st/tt, 41 cs, 8cm drop

Custom is a lot more than geometry. Could be stock geometry with different tubing choices to give a particular ride or match the style of the rider it was made for.

Good question. I personally don't feel that the sloping geometry makes that much difference in the way the bike rides. About the only time I notice this is when the top tube brushes against my leg and it hits in a different location.

The '96 has standard stock geometry which happens to work really well for me and the '04 was a custom (but not for me). They both ride very nicely and I enjoy being on them as much as I do my high carbons (Time VXR and Colnago C-50). If I had to choose between the two, it would be the '96. I'm not sure how to describe it, but I feel more connected when riding this bike than any other one I own. The fit is spot on and it handles superbly...it's a keeper.

This is 1997 vintage, bought from a forum member about seven years ago.
It has been ridden up and down both coasts and as far east as Singapore.
It presently resides in New Hampshire and will be receiving a group upgrade to used but good Record 10.

How was the ride up to Hurricane Ridge?

That is a cool area....one of my customers is a sponsor of a bike race in Sequim every year (Tour de Dungeness).

Hurricane Ridge

Out of three attempts I have made it twice. Forgot to take something to eat and ran out of gas on one try. The views are fantastic. The cedar trees are impressive and you do end up above the tree line. Starting at the P.A. city dock (sea level) it is about 18 miles to the end of the road and I think the elevation is right at a mile. There are a couple of tunnels that going up aren't bad but coming down at 40+ mph are really dark. Of course you could slow down, but I never think of that. It does cost about 8 dollars to get in the park, which is about the last ten miles of the ride. If you are in P.A. stop in for a great meal and killer wine list at Bella Italia, and tell Neil (the owner) that Earl sent you.

Duke,

I am going to have to do the Hurricane Ridge ride. I was born in Port Angeles and left when I was nine - 53 years ago.

Gives me a reason to go check out PA again.

Here is a shot of P.A. from Ediz Hook, locally known as the 'spit'. Hurricane Ridge is not in this picture it is more to the right.

Here is my 2000 CSI # CS58 1828
I have made a couple changes since this picture was taken. I swapped the ergo handle bars for Nitto Noodle bars and removed the fluted seat post and moved it back onto my Trek TX900. The Serotta now has a standard aluminum seat post now. Other than that, it's pretty much the same as pictured. It's running full Ultegra 10 speed with a triple. It's really hard to see it but I painted the lugs gray. I think it's a crime to have a lugged bike with no special lug work and I just couldn't leave it plain though i did go for a fairly subdued secondary color choice. if I ever strip it down, I may change that to a little more of a contrast, not sure.

I always joke with Mike that he should be riding 56cm bikes instead of 55cm...
