SD300 di2 wires?

Did I read this right? All new wires for 12s Di2? Is it even still called E-tube?

Bet they cost more.

Shimano EW-AD305 SD300 to SD50 Conversion Adapters. @ 22.00 ea.

https://bettershifting.com/component...wire-ew-sd300/

The Ultegra R8170 and DURA-ACE R9270 series are semi-wireless. Both derailleurs are connected to the battery using EW-SD300 wires, but the shifters communicate wirelessly. This battery probably has three ports, allowing you to connect wires to it without having to use any junction boxes.

3 port battery and wireless cockpit suggests no junction boxes?

It uses new e-tube to a port for connection to system. That looks to be the charger port. Shimano pic here, the e-tube port appears to be just above the led?

BTW, can't help but notice the placement of that port being exactly in a place that is most likely to sustain damage.

Just a smaller EW-SD50 really. It's not entirely new, I believe the newer Steps systems use it, but it's definitely a departure.

It is a bit ridiculous that they have to prevent anything and everything from being backwards compatible... unless they're being lazy and would rather "let" you re-use your 9100 TT shifters. So they do make an adapter for that, but until some tech nerds get real creative, they're not going to allow a firmware update to allow R8000 or 9100 series levers to work with the new system. I was really pleased to see SRAM make this move, and a tiny part of me holds out hope that Shimano will follow suit, but given the industry norms, I doubt it.

With that all said, the new smaller diameter wires are a welcomed sight, although I'll have to "rebuild" my handy brake cable and housing ferrule wiring tool...

Shouldn't be too surprised...shimano and cross compatibility.
shimano has done this many times..like when they went from caged ball bearing headsets to cartridge bearing headsets..with a corresponding 6mm taller stack height..that made a whole universe of forks obsolete...or when going from UniGlide to Hyperglide..or even first gen 8s DA..that was compatible with nothing else...

So, pretty standard...

For my hacken-stein wrenching, I agree 100%. There are times I cut and soldered/shrink tubed V1 e-tube wires just to drill a smaller hole.
