i think some of my earlier ones could have been great,
but at the time did not have enough experience to know what great was.

My best bike, and I've been using it since 2005 is a Colnago Active. Pretty basic compared to newer road frames. Aluminum, CF seat stays and sloppy welds. But...as far as bikes go, handles just the way I like. Right amount of stiffness. Does it all well. My previous frames going back since the 80's were ciöcc, guerciotti, pogliaghi(track), paramount(track), Litespeed Catalyst(least favorite).

Most treasured bike is a 1980 Colnago Super. Campy NR/SR. It has 60 or 70 thousand miles on it, been through the wars so to speak. It saw 4 seasons, 3 of them as a 2. It must be SP tubing because I broke a bunch of various SL frames that replaced it. I keep saying it needs a repaint, but I never seem to get it done, maybe it's the memories. I would have to be pretty desperate to part with it.

Hands down, my custom Waterford RS-22 with polished Reynolds 953 stainless frame. It was brazed by Dave Wages. It's my 'go-to' bike for 90% of my rides and does everything, from fast group rides to week-long light touring, perfectly.

Hands down, no question. It just tracks beautifully, feels so secure and stable and really accelerates unlike anything else I've ridden.

Of all the bikes I have owned. And all I have had made for me. I like the Ellis I got from SamIam the best.

The Sachs and the Crumpton are fighting for the top spot. Two fantastic bikes.

Greatest bike ever? In terms of delivering an experience this beast pegs the fun meter at 11 every time my wife and I ride it. It just rails on technical single track.

Count me in step with the editorial staff of Bicycling, the S-Works Tarmac is the best (or greatest) bike I've ever owned. Last year I logged 11K miles, and I'll do it again this year....if not more. I don't know of anything I enjoy more than being in the saddle. They may not be the best looking bikes, but I did not buy it for its looks.
Truth of the matter, is that I would likely be happy with any of a number of modern carbon bikes. They just won't quit. Last edited by rnhood; 05-03-2014 at 04:12 PM. |

Two weeks ago it was the Ritchey. Last week it was the Moots. For todays ride its was the C59...
Tomorrow, going off road on Mt Diablo so the crown will likely transition to the Highball... |
