Ted Lasso - Bicycle Switch

This post is for those who watch Ted Lasso, the vapidly innocuous sitcom in its second season on AppleTV. (NB: I'm within earshot when a family member watches the show.)

In the first episode of season 2, when a new character named Dr. Sharon is introduced, she seen is riding a Brompton (unpainted, clearcoat as I recall). In a later episode of season 2, the same character is seen riding a different folding bike (I didn't see a brand logo, but it appeared to be a Citizen or Tern) immediately before she has an accident. A damaged bike (definitely not a Brompton) is carried around in several following scenes. The episode ends with Ted presenting Dr. Sharon with a new bike - a Brompton.

I'm curious as to why a Brompton was swapped out of the accident-related scenes. I welcome your thoughts.

Thanks. EWO

You were not alone in wondering this. Maybe whoever gave them the Brompton said it couldn’t be used in a crash scene? The other bike looked much cheaper and of lower quality…

for someone who finds the show vapidly innocuous you are very observant

I find the series quite good personally but I guess am not observant of the props having missed this detail.

For the same reason a cheap repainted nothing bike was used instead of a Masi GC in the Breaking Away crash scene?

My keen observation skills are both a gift and (occasionally) a curse.

Yes I noticed that they used a cheaper bike for the crash scene. Dr. Sharon was introduced half way through the first season so she’s been around.
My wife and I have enjoyed watching it in the evening, with so much bad news in the world constantly bombarding us it’s a pleasant escape from day to day life.

Reminds me of this Groucho Marx scene at about 1:00 - 1:15.

ALSO - it’s fascinating that the actor who plays Dr. Sharon had never ridden a bike before she got the role. Never. Seems like the challenges in “Ted Lasso” weren’t all onscreen.

My wife recently convinced me to binge watch this show with her. Interesting note that the actor who played Dr Sharon had never ridden a bike before. I'll have to share.

Or that Kowalsky's Dodge Challenger morphed into a Chevy Camaro for the ultimate crash scene in the classic car chase move "Vanishing Point?"

I think the original guesses are right - either they substituted a cheaper "stand-in" when they needed to mangle a bike, or that Brompton product placement sponsorship didn't allow them to show a mangled Brompton.

Oh come on, I can’t believe no one here knows the REAL reason Dr. Sharon is shown with two folding bikes. She collects bikes! Because she’s living in a temporary apartment, she brings only two to that home, both folding for convenience.

I mean, we should understand - don’t most people here have several bikes?
