Mercian Strada Speciale - 853 Pro Team

The custom Mercian Strada Speciale I originally ordered back in June 2018, when I went to get measured up at the shop in Derby (UK), is finally built and has now had all the components fitted.

I've seen the frame "in the flesh" 2 weeks ago, when I went to drop off the components with them that I've been acquiring for the last 12 months, but not yet the finished bike - just this photograph they sent last week. I should be picking it up next week (I live in Oxford, so is a 2 1/2 hour drive away and the workshop doesn't open on weekends...) and getting a final fitting (saddle and stem height adjusting etc.)

Paint is #63 Orange Pearl Flamboyant and #22 White Enamel HT/ST/lug lining and fills. Other lug lining #18 Gunmetal Grey Poly, as thought black seemed a bit stark. https://www.merciancycles.co.uk/craftmanship/paint/

Will post some more photos after I pick it up

This is pretty much the full spec (apart from detailed geometry) and components, as fitted:

Frame: Mercian Strada Speciale - 53cm centre-to-top
Tubing: Reynolds 853 Pro Team (forks and stays are also 853)

NB: has chain peg braze-on on inside RH seat stay, also has braze-on for front-derailleur and 2 x bottle cage mounts. Has vertical rear dropouts.

No mudguard/fender or rack fittings (by choice). Will take up to 28mm tyres.

Campagnolo Record 1" threaded headset
Nitto M106 NAS drop bars (42cm width)
Fizik Tempo Microtex Bondcush Classic 3mm bar tape
Nitto Pearl quill stem (90mm length)

Campagnolo Veloce 10-speed shifters (2006-era)
Campagnolo Chorus (differential) brake callipers (pre-skeleton, 2006-era) with Swissstop Race Pro pads

Gilles Berthoud Galibier leather saddle (black), with titanium rails
Campagnolo Chorus titanium seatpost 27.2mm diameter
Nitto R 'Racing' stainless steel bottle cage (I have two, but only one is currently mounted)

Campagnolo Chorus 10 speed rear derailleur (medium cage)
Campagnolo Centaur 10 speed 12-27 cassette
Campagnolo Record Ultra Narrow 10 speed Chain

Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed chainset with 50/34 chain rings
Campagnolo Centaur 10 speed Front Derailleur
Shimano Dura Ace PD-9000 SPD-SL pedals

Campagnolo Chorus hubs (32 hole)
Mavic Open Pro C rims
Schwalbe high pressure rim tape (18mm)
DT Swiss spokes
Veloflex Master 25mm tyres
Silcia Latex inner tubes

My first adult road bike was a Mercian KOM with a barber strip seat tube. My nephew rides it now.

Absolutely love it, have a huge soft spot for Mercians. My wife rides an 80s vincitore that I think we'll have forever.

Thanks for all the positive replies, I'm very pleased with how it's turned out and am very much looking forward to riding it for a bit before winter (I have other bikes for winter use).

Whilst obviously not a weight weenie build, I'll also be interested to find out how much is weighs, I'm guessing around 9-9.5Kg. I could make it a bit lighter by using a Record carbon crankset and Chorus carbon ergos (which I also have) if I wanted to.

Really cool!! Love the colors and build. Interested to hear how it rides and imho, I’d not worry about the weight and stick with the components you’ve got.
