Colder-climate Paceliners - do you have a paincave in the garage?

I have my bike on a trainer in my office this winter, but by next winter I was looking to set it up in the garage, where my gym is. I want to get a heater setup in there and insulate the garage door.

Anyone have a nice setup and can share photos or setup ideas?

No. My garage is unheated and quite cold in winter.

If I had a heated, insulated garage that could be in the upper 50s at a minimum I’d consider having my trainer in the garage because I don’t love making my basement smell like a locker room.

I live in Chicagoland and this winter was perhaps the worst I’ve seen in years. Lots of basement time.

my basement is fairly cold. That's where my trainer is. In the past I have worn knee warmers, but I haven't done it this winter. I wear a long sleeve wool base layer on top.

I don't think I would try to heat a garage. Just wear gloves and tights/jacket. You aren't going to see any wind, so full outdoor clothing probably won't be necessary. And I think you will still want a fan.

In Brooklyn the problem has always been getting the basement cold enough to ride the trainer comfortably. No need to mention no garages around lol

A low basement ceiling height didn’t bother Eddy.

^^^ Yep. I’m in an unheated sunroom. I’m guessing it’s ~15F warmer than outside. On the coldest days I start with a long sleeve jersey and a hand towel on my bars blocking the fan a bit. Sometimes I wear thin gloves. It takes 5-10min to break a sweat, then all is well. Working hard without wind, even with a fan, I sweat plenty.

Yup. It never freezes, but commonly low 40s in there. Still sweat something fierce and use a fan.

My garage has insulated doors but is otherwise not insulated/heated. The lowest temperature I saw in the garage this winter was about -10. Can't imagine setting up in the garage any time in the future.

My trainer is in the basement and that space is plenty warm since it is a conditioned space. I use a fan to keep from over-sweating.
