Thinner chain ring design

Hello,

Was looking for a less burly looking chainring. Will be for a 11 speed drive train / etap.

The brands below I know have offerings. Have a few questions.

- Anyone have good experience with Extralite’s offerings?
- Anyone have experience with Stronglight’s offerings?

Priority is smooth shifting of course. 2nd a more old school, conventional design, and last weight savings.

Probably end up going with Stronglight’s 7075 rings in silver.

Anyone recommend a US vendor who sells them? Peter White the only game in town?

I've been using Stronglight chainrings for a a few years now, and I really like them. They are quite and smooth, and shift well. They also have movable anti-jam pin, so you can put the pin in the right position for standard and hidden-5th arm cranks.

As I understand it, Peter White is a US distributor of Stronglight chainrings (maybe the only one), and there aren't many US retailers. However, there are many European sellers who sell them (such XXCycles in France and Starbikes & Bike24 in Germany).

You might also look at TA Specialites, which are also quite well regarded. Peter White also sells these, but I think there are more US retailers for TA chainrings, such as Harris Cyclery.

Perfect, thanks Mark. I’ll call PW this week to put in an order.

Sidebar topic, looks like for SL’s silver chainrings, they’re only offered for 10/9 speed? Is that compatible with a 11 sp drivetrain?

Chainrings are fairly tolerant, and can be used with a range of different cassette/chain spacings. 10/9spd chainrings should be fine with an otherwise 11spd drivetrain.

Bilenky in Philly is (or was) a TA importer as well. I have used their rings on a Carmina crank. Very smooth shifting and runs quiet.

I have Stronglight and TA rings on several bikes. No shifting issues and much better looking than the stock Sram.

I keep an eye out for NOS rings and snag them on the cheap when possible. Looks like Mark and Verbs have you pointed in the right direction for getting them ASAP.

TA rings are superb in form and function. You won't be disappointed.

I have 2 silver Stronglight rings...135 BCD for Campagnolo 50 tooth, 7075 aluminum. Got them on E Bay. Almost Chorus quality of the silver era.

Thanks, but I’m going to need them for 110BCD and for SRAM.

Thinner chain ring design

I called Peter White and put in an order. Unfortunately, Stronglight doesn’t have specific 11 CR in silver. I with the ceramic coated 11. Same thin elegant design but with a dark gray finish.

That’s ok, because the spider and cranks are actually silver/ti.

Also, Peter is pretty cool guy!

I’m looking forward to installing them! What I’m not looking to is adjusting the etap 11 FD!
