look at this crap from shimano • more complex and ugly

i quess i have to be thankful that i remember when i could understand how everything worked and it was pleasing to look at.

i personally hope they make this crap so unbelievably complex that it looks like edward scissorhands designed everything.

shimano will eventually look as bad as sram, maybe worse. keep it up

redesign the rear der.

it all went sideways when they added the shadow' design to the road groups. what the hell was the reasoning behind this, to avoid scraping, Grinding* the the binder bolt on the pavement. and now this. it's getting more comical with every passing group. big fat touring cassettes on road bikes here we come. gotta have it.

24 speeds, 26 speeds • for Gods sake keep going

c'mon 25k bikes, we're so close

Shimano is not afraid to patent thier ideas whether they make it to production or not.
See the 14sp drivetrain with a pretty interesting chain design from about 1999 (I think) for an example.

Suntour made three-pulley derailers about 40 years ago, for the same reason, to wrap lots of chain without coming too close to the road or trail.

There can be big differences between derailers made to work with one chainring and derailers made to work with multiple chainrings.
GRX rear derailer offerings have a much smaller maximum cog size limit when used with two chainrings, while this new design would seem to expand on what the GRX could handle.

EDIT: Found this on flickr:

They sure Campy doesn't already own this patent? Looks like a version of the Nuovo Record design of old...

As I recall Suntour has a 3 pulley derailleur back in the day that was designed to allow more chain wrap and a larger gear range.

It worked....it looked silly but it worked.

Did you even read the article? That this is aimed at mtbs and the practical reasons why a derailleur like this would be of benefit? And others have pointed out. The existence of a patent doesn't mean much. May never get used. May appear at some time in the future that doesn't actually look anything like the patent drawing.

I am becoming more and more convinced that the Paceline is just a place for old roadies to yell at clouds.
