Campagnolo UT bearing replacement
I got a second hand bike with a Veloce Ultra Torque crank. There is some noise when pedaling so I removed the crank and found that one of the bearings feels gritty. I cleaned and applied some grease but I would like to replace it. I know that Campagnolo uses a 6805N (6mm) but the ones in this bike are 6805 RS (7mm). There is no play in the cranks with these bearings and rotation is smooth. Also the thrust washer is missing. Maybe to make space for the extra 1 mm in those bearings. Do you recommend to replace with the same model as the other is good? Or use the OEM from Campagnolo.

The 6805RS (7mm) can be obtained from almost any bearing house, the 6805N (6mm) limited sources, Campagnolo. Yes, likely the wavy/thrust washer removed to allow the use of the wider nonstandard bearings. Can use either, the wider bearing likely has a higher load rating and a rubber seal (RS), use the wavy washer if you chose to use the 6mm Campagnolo sourced bearing.

Why do people think they know more than the engineers that designed integrated systems?
I’ve seen first hand what happens when the shop mechanic doesn’t install the clip and wavy washer. Had it been my CF frame that was damaged, he’d be permanently wearing it. Be a man: read (and follow) the instructions. |

Thanks for the replies. I will replace them with the original ones. Also need to order the wavy washer. The clip is on the cups.
By the way, no one is trying to change the design. Only asking about experience of using slightly different parts as I got the bike with those bearings. You don’t need to be a man to read instructions. |

Graeme created his own, new, integrated system. One that was coherent, reliable and suited to his purposes. I wouldn't try to improvise if called upon to work on one of his bikes, either.

Not trying to turn this into a hambini-fest and I'll bet he has some good technical info but his rude, profane, misogynistic, sexist BS..no thanks.
There are plenty of good sources for reliable technical info without his 'attitude' that has nothing to do with bikes.

Any tips to make bearings and cups last longer
Just had to replace UT cups and bearings due to "hammering" sounds. Anything I can do to extend life other than regreasing frequently?
I was used to sq taper BBs that lasted a long time. The decent Campy BBs lasted a long time. Alan |
