I'm not cool or slim enough for Rapha, but my new job is on Rt66 in AZ. It'll likely be my go-to route because there's all kinds of cheesy tourist places that have cold drinks.

It's not a great movie, doc, whatever.
Too many technical issues, too many riding issues. Sitting on the side of I-40 in NM is just stupid. Crossing fence lines is just stupid. But hey, that's just my two cents. Last edited by dbnm; 07-13-2018 at 05:48 PM. |

I've traveled through NM and AZ and much of Rt 66 is now I-40 but there are abandoned sections that are no longer paved including one through Petrified National Forest. They're mostly a depression in the ground with telegraph poles alongside. I've driven several sections that would have been awful on a bike. I'm moving to Kingman, Rt 66 has a nice shoulder as far as I would want to ride.
But yeah, it tries to be artsy and edgy and comes up short. |

Rapha had a screening here in a local theatre, with the director and riders in attendance, and Q&A following the screening.
I too was underwhelmed. Particularly because it purported to be about the people they met and those people constituted a tiny portion of the footage. Also, the sound quality was abysmal (at least it was in the theatre). |

It's not as good as Therabouts, but I still enjoyed it. Just a group of friends enjoying the simplicity of riding their bikes.
Fence lines? Gates and fence lines need to be crossed every once and a while... That's where the best riding is. |

Not going to watch the film, but an observation regarding Rapha. A buddy of mine just got a pair of the cargo bibs. I understand the intended functionality, but those things are HIDEOUS! Truthfully, I can look bad in bibs for a lot less than $270, and still find places to carry stuff. In my opinion, a train wreck. Just sayin'

yeah but thats the beauty of youth. It took me back a bit. I use to do some crazy road trips and the naivete and emotions feel very genuine and tapped a couple parts of my noodle that have not been visited in a while.. The kids are alright....

Enjoyed the film but I think you need to be in the mood for this "finding America" kind of film.
Thoughts...trying not to spoil...the early bike issues were confusing considering the riders; the health issues that would have gotten worse for me but they pushed on through them; the cool scenery - not surprising considering its Rapha; of course the characters they meet; and lastly...not a commercial for the company unless I am a bit too dense to catch it. I don't know the "route" but has that much gone away for them to end up where they did? Worth the watch and a bit inspiring for me to try an adventure ride. |

I just finished it.. I liked it. The focus bothered me in certain sections, but it took me back to why I tell people that my bike touring trips were the best vacations I ever had. I want to go on another tour. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to ride with me, fortunately, my wife is always down for an adventure.

I cannot help but imagine the purpose of such a film, beyond selling Rapha stuff. Is this the promotion of a different lifestyle or purpose to cycling?
