Replace my Finish Line Citrus degreaser with Home Depot's Zep?

I have used red dye diesel in my solvent tank for decades. It leaves an oily residue to prevent corrosion on firearm parts, dissolves gunk from chains, freewheels and chainrings. If you need a part completely oil free, spray it with some brake cleaner after the solvent tank. Cheap and works great.

If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend Simple Green for aircraft/alloy for bikes.

Not nearly as bad for the bike since it's made for airplanes

I like to use simple green for cassette, derailleur, chainring. when my chain gets gunked up ill soak it in zep purple for a bit to get it clean. then put it back on and relube. water based stuff shoudnt be too much of an issue as long as you dry everything after.

There is almost zero degreaser use on my bike anymore after switching to chain waxing. Dawn dish soap and a microfiber.

I learned this from the silca degreasing/waxing guide:

“look for something approved for aircraft. Simple Green makes an aircraft approved degreaser, but regular Simple Green can help lead to hydrogen embrittlement.”

The one I use is called “Extreme Aircraft and Precision Cleaner”. I think the product naming guy got payed by the word for that one.
