One of mine is not applying for Architecture school--in Canada you need an undergrad degree first--which I had just finished--and I had the application in my hand, and one of the submission requirements was a "porfolio."
Having no one to ask about this, I completely freaked out and shelved the application. I figured out years later that I could have submitted a decent set of original photographic prints from my years as a serious amateur photog. But having been taught to devalue "art" and having somehow internalized the message that I was not an "artist" (and a natural "genius" at such pursuits which was the other part of the message--I mean, where do we learn such things???) it was easy for this to be a stumbling block. I just did not think of myself in those terms. I may have starved as an architect, and it might not have been life changing, but I have come to understand that I got a good chunk of "art" (appreciation of design, beauty, form, love for the right materials) and a good chunk of "science" (precision, procedure, details, solving technical problems) with my upbringing and education, and architecture is one of the few arenas where both are continually in play.... |

I don't think it's the greatest regret of my life, but I regret drinking so much scotch over the holidays last year.

No regrets for me. Some wishes though. Wish I swam competitively as a kid. Old swimmers who know how to swim well have a longevity vehicle. As evidenced by Helen the 96 year old woman at my club who swims 1/2 mile daily, and does it well.

This probably belongs in the aviation thread, but I deeply regret passing up an opportunity to fly a B-17. I could have checked out as a co-pilot, flown in an airshow, and then flown it from CNY to Denver. I will kick myself about this horrendous lapse in judgement until my dying day.

Not getting quality miles
On all the bikes in the fleet...
So I’m inspired to change that And am going to get all the bikes in the fleet Serviceable as a commuter For a week at a time... I’m posting today’s restoration project In the commuter bike thread! https://forums.thepaceline.net/showt...=240433&page=2 Hope it gets me to work Monday... (I also need to get busy finding a couple Chains and derailleurs for bikes That have fallen into neglect) Perhaps a photo of the disarray In the shop would put some perspective On the level of dysfunction I’m talking about To claim a life’s greatest regret tag. ...maybe that warrants a thread of it’s own...

Pizzeria customer: "I'd like to order a large pepperoni pizza, please."
Pizza chef: "Certainly, sir. Would you like the pizza cut into 6 or 8 slices?" Pizzeria customer: "You'd better cut it into 6 slices - I don't think I could eat 8." |
