See y'all there. Vacillating between the 650b 47f/45r setup that I have on the bike now, or throwing on the 700c G-One 35 wheelset. Maybe the latter.

(And I love ALL the descents!)

I am doing 48s all around because why not but I do think that a 35 is a great tire for D2R2... unless you are doing a mystery and they throw some crazy stuff at you.

I rode 650b last year and the descents were awesome, but you def feel then drag on the pavement. We’ll see!

For those in the know, if someone who has registered beforehand and wishes to change distances, do you simply show up and start with the distance you want or is there some logistical thing that the event organizers need to know?

Thanks

Just show up! I am undecided. Leaning toward the (all new) 160k. Steep pitches (as if that's something new) and recent broken and subsequent musical cranks give me excuse for trying the new GRX cranks.

You can let them know at the regi tent just before you head out. Good for them to know for logistics. They won't say no.

D2r2

Did the 180k last year on my Cutthroat with 2.1 mtb tires (race kings)

This year, I'm running some tubeless 32mm Gravelking SK's, a narrower lighter wheelset and no dynamo hub.

I'm registered for the 180k, but I really haven't done any endurance training this year. I'll probably take the bail out option at the covered bridge, or switch to a shorter route, maybe the 115k.

They appreciate knowing beforehand because there are logistics involved in getting the right amount of food to each lunch location. Email Linda Alvord

Totally forgot to purchase the camping pass. I've emailed with no response. Does anyone know if I can just pay when I show up?

I've done this before, you should not have an issue.

I think they said that this year is different because the camping area available is much more limited than it was in the past... so that campers that come without registering up front might be out of luck.

Right. I just read that in today's email. Now seeing there was an August 2 email warning to register for camping by Aug 12...

I can't decide which bike to ride.
A) Rick Jones
+Been riding this one A LOT this year. It fits better than any other bike and I'm really comfortable on this bike on long days
+35 mm Compass slicks roll fast. Decent on rough stuff.
+46/30 sub-compact so good climbing gearing
-35 mm Compass slicks only decent on rough stuff
-Canti brakes stop but arent the greatest stoppers in the world

B) Lyon L'Avecaise 650b monster rando
+48mm 650b Compass knobbies roll decent on pavement, more volume and grip for the rough stuff and especially the descents
+Mafac Raid brakes work pretty well
-Fits me but haven't been riding this bike as much because I've always grabbed the RJ
-50/34 cranks give me decent climbing gearing but not as low as the 46/30
-48mm knobbies dont roll as fast on pavement
