Piggybacking on the momentum of the other thread:

Early last year I got a painful and lingering case of plantar fasciitis, and after lengthy experimentation ended on some $40 Skechers foamycloud things. It was instant relief, and I've had no pain since. I'm also comfortable in my Birkenstock and Chacos sandals.

But, they look a little goofy in the office. I still wear them though.

I don't need fancy dress shoes at work, but semipro/simple would be good.

Your basic black shoe that works well with modern business casual, whatever that is...

You might try orthotics in shoes of the proper size. I had custom orthotics made to deal with my faciitis 30+ years ago but these days I think you might do fine getting fitted at Good Feet or a similar store. MANY men are not in the correct size shoes. Lots of guys who have been squeezed into 9EEE should probably be wearing 10 1/2C so whatever support the shoes offer would line up with the arch of the foot.

Finn Comfort. Know your size get on eBay, pay regularly $$$$ All I wear with many foot issues. German made, leather inside and out.

Black running shoes. I wear them in business casual situations (slacks, button shirt, blazer).

I do a lot of walking in them and my feet are happy. The shoes are unobtrusive and you'll be surprised to notice how many others are doing the same...

Of course, if you're in a situation where you need to impress...

I’ve had good luck with Allen Edmonds. Thought their prices only make sense for the Oxfords and similar that can be re-soled when needed. Their price on more casual shoes are bonkers.

I wear Rockports. Rubber sole, very light, comfy. If you need insoles (you may, with the planar thing) I don't know how much room you'd have.

With really cheap dress shoes I got shin splints trotting next door to the restaurant. With the Rockport shoes it's a lot better, even if I have to trot over because I'm running late. For a cyclist I'd say the difference is like riding with steel bars vs aluminum, or without bar tape vs with bar tape. Shock is muted with the Rockport shoes.

I had them a long time ago, my mom got them for me for my first corporate job. I got them recently via Amazon. Got a second set as a back up.

+1. I pick the dress shoes up during Nordstrom’s semi-annual sale. I’ve had shoes that have been resoled multiple times. Also, if you get the rubber sole instead of leather they last forever.

I’ve got three pair of Allen Edmond Park Avenue cap toes for my work. I got them with rubber soles and find them to be quite good. They’re expensive but worth it. MUSA and highly customizable. Got the shoe trees and rotate through them. I expect them to last the rest of my career.

Keep them well treated and polished and they should last, literally, for decades.
