Actually, these days my "training" is more or less what you describe.

Retirement from the military, the stress and uncertainties of starting a new career at 49, long family separations, no real sporting goals/targets, a string of injuries... yeah, I do a lot of what could be called JRA these days.

I just started adding more intensity back into my workouts (limited to the trainer), and I feel a lot better- other than being a little more tired at times. It's just what works for me.
