Anyone have a Routt? Question about sizing.
Given what's going on with my spine, I've accepted that I'm not going to ride road bikes again. Fine. Whatever. Life's like that sometimes. But I'm not ready to give up on cycling just yet. I'm hoping I might be able to get a Routt 45, which seems to have a much higher front end than a traditional road frame, and make that work for me. My doc is on board with the experiment. So now I just have to figure out which size will work. It looks like I'm probably between a 55 and a 56 in Moots's weirdo world.
If you've got a Routt 45, would you mind sharing with me how the sizing compares to neutral road geometry? In other words, what size road bike and what size Routt do you ride? Thanks! Last edited by akelman; 08-07-2019 at 08:49 PM.

I had a regular Routt for a little while. I ride similar size road bikes to you and had a 55cm with a 56 head tube length that they offered at no extra charge.
The higher stack height put me in a much more upright position and the bike was very comfortable and smooth. I have had some back issues in the past and the Routt never had them flaring up after rides. It is likely your best bet for a more endurance oriented and comfortable ride. The 45 is longer in the chainstays and fits even fatter tires which should smooth things out even more. I would definitely recommend the extended head tube for somebody with back issues. There is an upcharge now for the longer headtube. You can still go full custom.

Does Moots still have the demo bikes that they will ship to your local dealer? I was between sizes and Moots sent a bike to ABE in Tucson and I rode it for a week (for free). If this is still an option it would be worth looking into. I do have to tell you that my experience was back in 2005 so it might not be available still.

I don't have a Routt, but was strongly considering a Routt 45 when I was shopping around for a titanium gravel bike.
The geometry is pretty typical of a gravel bike geared more towards the "adventure" side (as opposed to something more road and racy), which means the geometry is more upright. You'll notice this by the high stack and relatively short reach numbers in the geo chart. If you compare these values with geo charts on modern road bikes, it's much more obvious.
