Be aware that Cervelo has had problems with their frames cracking...mostly in the bottom bracket area, but the cracking wasn't just isolated to the BBs. They may have resolved these issues, but I have several friends (one owns a small LBS) and they each went through several R3s because of this problem.

While an original owner of one of these bikes might only have to deal with the hassle of replacing a cracked frame...a second owner has no recourse via Cervelo's warranty.

Edit: I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on a used one a while back, but in the end decided that I didn't want to take the risk on a frame without a warrant that had a known problem with cracking.

Definitely read up all about the BB/cracking issues so looked closely for that. Though I don't think it was as common as some of the posts make it seem.

All frames have potential issues, I've been more wary of CF for this reason. But lots of friends with long term CF frames without issues. Wanted to give it a try!

I had a crack in the fork of my S2.
Cervelo replaced it no problem...even though the LBS didn't want to send it back. They wanted me to continue riding it and monitor the crack anf see if it got worse.
Aside from that...no cracks. I even have a pretty wild R series that has been flawless the past couple of years.

Good deal. I had read about the cracking issues on the Internet, but it was more real when I knew of and saw for myself the problems. I still wouldn't mind giving an R3 a try.

Yes seatpost is kind of an issue. I have a 2011? Maybe newer. But I use a 27.2 with a shim and while not super clean it gets the job done.

Didn't mean to side track this discussion into a Cervelo one, but at some point (not sure when) they changed the seatpost size back to 27.2.

Would it have been 'worse' if it had broken while riding? This is dumb advice, IMHO. Why wouldn't the LBS NOT want to send it back..no sweat off their back.

Got some new even lighter matte finish carbon cages. 15.5g will do just fine! Ebay cages, 2/$22 free shipping. Quality and craftsmanship is superb! Bottles fit nice and snug with no chance of a bottle popping out, yet easy enough to pull one out
