Greg LeMond Ventoux Team Z

Thank you PL for positing this in the PSA. I didn’t need another bike but it was too cool of a bike to pass on. I drove 5 hours round-trip yesterday.

Classic bike from 1991; pre-Trek. It’s from around when Ha and I got into riding. Greg LeMond was all the rage, being the first American male to win the Tour De France. It brings back so many great memories of my dad and his support for us riding. I also had the pleasure of meeting Greg LeMond in 1998 when he visited the bike dealers that carried his brand. I worked at Sun & Ski during college. I framed a Team Z jersey and the signed poster years ago. Now having the Team Z bike makes it all come together.

I am thinking Athena 11 silver with Delta 5 pivot brakes. How would you build it?

If anyone has any leads on an Athena 11 silver groupset (170 or 172.5, 50/34, 12-28, Italian BB ideal) and Delta brakes, then please pass along the info. Appreciate it.

I had mine build with Athena 11 and then ultimately went with Chorus 10 + Deltas (but should've kept the Athena).

Great story and have always loved these bikes.....one of the few that I really miss!

Thank you. The bike is such a pig / tank compared to today’s bike.

Looks great! History!

I love the connection you and Ha have with each other and cycling. Thank you for sharing. This is what it’s all about.

Cool bike!

After seeing many of your builds on Weightweenies, I'm surprised to see you pick up an old vintage steel tank, but have fun! Old bikes are cool !!

Hi Old Fat & Slow!! I posted a few builds on WW but I never really had a true WW bike. My twin brother Ha has a few ultra WW parts (THM cranks and brakes for example) but I like to keep most the parts stock. I had a 7-11 re-release a few years ago as well as a Motorola then I went all modern. Been there, done that. Yeah, old bikes are super cool again to me. Thanks!!

Thanks Angry Scientist!! I am sure cycling has really bonded you with some great folks. For me, the bond is extra special because Ha’s my twin. And we ride the same size!!

My wife is such a great sport. I told her what I found and asked if I could buy it. She said sure and happy Father’s Day. Then she said your car or mine? Silver Athena 11 is pretty hard to find. Looks like I will have to piece meal it as groupset don’t exist anymore. All part of the hunt.

Nice looking bike. I’m also putting together a LeMond. I’m doing a Resto-Mod with mine. Looking forward to what you do with yours.

Yep, I’m the one that picked it up. It was a fun road trip with the wife. She’s very supportive of my craziness.

Found some C Record goodies

Thanks to PL member Columbus SLX and Facebook, I was able to find most of the C Record parts. Ha, my twin, is letting me use his spare polished CK hubs and HED Belgium wheelset. Thinking Ritchey Classic silver bar and Nitto silver stem.
