Pegoretti Fina Estampa

I picked up the frame/fork a few months back for what I considered to be a very reasonable price on ebay. Maybe there's not much love for brown bikes and Reynolds forks?

With mostly extra/used parts and a few splurge items (King headset, Thomson stem, Selle Italia Flite, Lizard Skin tape) I was able to piece together a 'budget' Peg.

I was initially thinking that I'd 'upgrade' the fork but came to my senses.

Very nice. I think most Fina's came in that paint scheme. Mine did and I liked it. How do you like it so far? Many happy miles.

what happened to the extension on the HT?

i've always liked pegs, but never loved the raised HT / dropped TT

Looks lovely, I'd fancy that for myself! And nothing wrong with that fork, have one on one of my bikes and can't fault it.

Cliche... its a stiff, but not harsh bike. My 25c's fit, but they are tight.

Personal... I was pretty sure based on the geo chart that I could get things into the correct spot without much effort, but the fit is absolutely perfect for me. Exact middle of the rails seat position with that post, stem, bars etc all in the right spot so that was a huge sigh of relief to match the chart to reality.

Vainglorious... it gets a lot of positive comments.

Pretty sure it is as original and un-cut.

No, that head tube extension has been cut. Note how the head badge is no longer centered on the head tube. All the Pegorettis of this era came with a rather large extension and it is totally acceptable to cut down the head tube.

Do you know much about the 'reason' for this bike? My understanding is that it was a lower $ frameset with the intention of being relatively high volume?

The Gita site says "Fina Estampa, loosely translated, means “Fine Body” or “Fine Figure”"

Any idea what the script is on the back part of the top tube?

I know when Competitive Cyclist was hugely in Pegoretti, they called this frame their "Bread and Butter" Pegoretti and if they could sell one, they would sell this one.

I heard the Fina Estampa was introduced as a heavier, more robust frame to compliment the superlight, thinwall CCKMP. The Fina Estampa is made of Dedacciai SC61.10A Scandium, while the CCKMP was Dedacciai U2.

I have heard the Japanese script on the top tube just says "Pegoretti" in Katakana, a Japanese writing to spell out foreign words but can't confirm.

Thanks for the info. The Gitabike site says that its Columbus rather than Deda, but I don't think that's correct...

I love the paint job. I had a Fina in Ayers Rock, and while it was nice, I like yours much more. And nothing wrong with Reynolds forks. The one you have looks quite nice on your frame, without the green decals that were on so many.

Thanks. I agree about the fork. I've read several comments from Dario on how much he liked the fork and it being discontinued was a reason for coming up with the Falz.

One sidebar... I've come to the conclusion that Campy Zonda wheels are a ridiculous value. Easily found for $350 a set if you keep your eye out, relatively light, stiff enough and extremely durable.
