It was a big hit in India, and elsewhere, but I didn't see it until a couple three years ago. Great entertainment with laugh out loud moments.
Sholay is a 1975 film Hindi film, about the two petty criminals, Jai and Veeru hired by village head, Thakur, to capture, for a bounty, a ruthless dacoit by the name of Gabbar Singh. |

1. Thief. Jimmy Caan.
2. The Hot Rock. Redford. 3. Motorcycle Diaries. Outstanding. 4. The Last Detail. Nicholson at his best. 5. The Gambler. Jimmy Caan again. 6. Scarecrow. Al Pacino, Gene Hackman. 7. Marathon Man. Dustin Hoffman, L. Olivier ("Is It Safe?") 8. Sometime A Great Notion. Paul Newman's directorial debut. One of my favs. Last edited by Jeff N.; 06-23-2011 at 08:01 AM. |

+1 on The Swimmer. I came across that completely by chance in my youth and could not turn it off. The director should be credited with the unique feel of that one.

Four more:
Crash - the one about car crash fetishes. Mother - Albert Brooks Punch Drunk Love - Adam Sandler in a dramatic role - very good movie. Of course, there also is The Bad Lieutenant. |

The In Laws...
Not the remake from a few years ago but the original from the '70's with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin. Absolutely maniacal. PS, +1 on the Local Hero reference earlier.

Breaker Morant was the first that came to mind, Matewan the 2nd.
For one that nobody has mentioned (I hope), but not all that obscure to film fans, how about M (1931). Starring Peter Lorre, directed by Fritz Lang. The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), starring Alec Guinness Last edited by oliver1850; 06-20-2011 at 07:18 PM. |
