Riding in Kingdom Trails VT
I'll be at kingdom trails in Vermont all week with a cross country mtb.
3 days isn't enough to do everything so where's the best XC riding? What else is there to do around there? Places to see? Coffee to drink? |

The whole system is worth riding. MooseHaven is a great addition.
Go to the visitor center and have the staff create routes for you, they are super helpful.

edit: Just wanted to give a to jcs7282's post below re the bar and Farm Junk. Love that trail - easy to hit multiple times as well. Bar has a great selection and it's a fun mix of people to talk with and possibly find some riding buddies since there's a decent chance one might be your neighbor. The entire place is fantastic.
There's lots of climbing to do, but generally there's always a payoff in the form of an awesome descent. Usually one that is super flowy with bermed corners and probably some table tops too. My favorite part of the trail system scenery-wise is all the stuff off of Darling Hill Rd, but there are plenty of nice vistas to be had elsewhere in the network too. If you get a clear day, riding up the hill to Heaven's Bench (accessed via the Wildflower Inn driveway) is a must do. Favorite trails for me include Sidewinder, Ozias (a relatively new one), Farmjunk, NewT (ride towards the river; heading the other way, it's just a grinder of a climb). Black Bear and Stormin Norman up in the East Haven trails are fun and rowdy too. Be sure to pick up a map, or download the map app to your phone, so you can find your way around. Non riding stuff to do: Make sure you get to visit Mike's Tiki Bar for apres beverages (local beers & sodas...maple lemonade is awesome). I have never tried it, but Cafe Lotti seems to be the go-to place for coffee & such and is right in the heart of downtown East Burke. Hill Farmstead brewery is quasi-nearby Burke (I think it's like an hour away or so) if you're so inclined. If not, the market/gas station downtown has a great selection of VT beers. Cafe Lotti has good breakfast and coffee.
Farmjunk area is fun and usually pretty empty. Darling Hill stuff can get crowded on weekends but NewT is worth it as is all the trails with Back in the name over there (Hog Back, Bear Back etc).

This is the best shorter trail ride in the zone. Beers at Dirt Church down the road to follow:
https://strava.app.link/eUKJkqxlukb Best longer trail ride: https://strava.app.link/xJCfB9Flukb Favorite 100 mile gravel route in the that zone (really in all of VT): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33917319 Enjoy it all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So, after everything went down what was it, two years ago, did the landowners that rescinded access ever give it back? Been seeing a lot of kingdom trails posts lately... just curious!

No - no resolution there. Those trails were the core of the darling hill zone. Now there’s a large vacuum bridged by mediocre trails and road.
The upshot is that the East Haven zone I shared in my previous post is the best the network now has to offer. And it’s pretty great. Other areas of VT I’d argue are superior. But East Haven is real good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
