Oh that bike! Cool.
I couldn't get 38c tires out of the minimotos.
I was thinking Paul would have a drawing for the cable hanger on the website.

Route the brake housing from in front of bars, OVER the bars, then into the cable stop. Common when many cross bikes had low stems but still used canti brakes.

I personally use the paul funky with the inset 7 headset and even mounted flush it works perfectly. Like others have said, route over the top of the stem. Under the stem causes a big kink in housing generally.

God I miss cantilever bikes.

But, but, but…oh never mind. Well designed and well set up cantis were a dream. Worked well, not heavy, expensive, stopped well, looked great. Instead of the complexity, cost, weight, and big glob of caliper/rotor on the frame/fork, wheel. Plus these gigantic, ape hanger, mavic Mektronic like shifters.

There, I said it, (big raspberry).

Cantis are great in some places for some things, but they honestly kinda suck if you have to do real braking down big hills. I really don’t miss the squealing howls, chattering fork, and grinding my rims to bits descending Marin fire roads in the winter.

I had mixed experiences with the Funky Monkey. Could never entirely avoid fork chatter with that thing. Mini-V or a fork mounted hanger is the way to go IMO.

even with the higher than normal cable stop with the integrated stem, i had zero chatter with the paul cantis on my stinner.
the only exception was when some stans leaked onto the brake surface of the rim. mini v brakes look funny. like they got stepped on.

The problem, even with mini-Vs, is that road brake levers have too much leverage (don't pull enough cable) except for the Tektro V brake compatible levers. There may be some iteration of Shimano STI levers that work acceptably, but the SRAM levers I tried sucked.

That was not sarcasm. I really do miss canti cx bikes. They look 100% better than disc bikes.

Disc brakes are far better when they work and far worse when they don’t though.

I use Paul's and it looks like it would clear your headset fine.

Replaced the supplied Koolstop Thinlines with Koolstop V-type 2 brake holders and using Ritchey low profile pads I can get 38s to fit in/out of Paul Minimotos.

I have a Paul funky monkey - if your stem is high angle and slammed it's just something you have to deal with. Some odd cable routing from a -17 degree stem...

The alternative is a mini-moto / hangerless arrangement or a cable stop from the fork crown.

TRP makes mini-v's that are better suited for road levers. The CX8.4 pair to sram and campy levers pretty well. I used them on my old cross bike when it transitioned to commuter/all road duty. Some say they can still be a bit touchy and modulation isn't great. Neither bothered me much. They aren't as good as really well set up canti's, but the ease of adjustability and lack of chatter more than made up for that IMO.
