BTW I totally agree with the argument that 36 is usually overkill for XC racing - I did some marathon XC races with a 34T and I was over-geared.

The Rekon Race and the Mezcal TLR are equally fast but the Mezcal offers slightly better grip. Both reasonable dry xc tires.

The fastest mtb tire I’ve been on is a Vittoria Terreno XC…semi slick 2.25…does that count as a mtb tire? I use it for gravel hardtailing.

I have found Mescals to last a long time as well. Mescal rear, Barzo front.

Cant go wrong with Ikon either.

Another to consider is the XR4/XR3 combo. Not a full race setup but having some front grip is fun.
