Sram downtube shifters
Hey everyone,
I've got a Bridgestone RB-2 which I was gifted some years ago and it has gone through many iterations. Lately I've been thinking of the possibility of somehow modifying sram bar-end shifters and somehow integrate them into the downtube shifter bosses. I know that it would be 100x's easier to just get a shimano group but It's just my curiosity. I've got some Ideas brewing and was looking for feedback and possible support. FA |

You could just run some Shimano (or any others) levers in friction mode. Might be a little tricky with 10-speed, though.

Believe it or not, 10 dpeed friction is easy. It works fine.

Having taken a LOT of sram barends apart, both the RTC and non, I doubt you are going to be able to do this. Biggest issue, like Campag barends to downtube, are the stops. Plus the fatness of the shifter body, trying to be next to a downtube vs on the end of a 'stalk'. BTW-sram barends use Campagnolo shaped, like identical, g springs.

Looking at it you are right and the solution to this non problem is going to be bulbous. Thanks for the info on the campy stuff. Ill look into it for some inspiration. |

Your bike is gorgeous.
But in all sincerity, please educate me, because I don't understand the problem. Won't any downtube friction shifters work? Are you trying to stay all SRAM for aesthetics? What am I missing here? |

Had luck with running a SRAM bar end TT style shifter mounted at the bottom of a drop bar old-school sprinter style. Indexed 10-speed commuting happiness.
Currently running as a 1x but could probably get away with running the left friction shifter on the other bar end should hills or mountains suddenly appear in my commute. |

Hahn Rossman built a bike with custom downtube stops for SRAM bar end levers. I've been meaning to email him to find out what he did, but my understanding is that the SRAM mounting boss is a different shape than the standard downtube boss. Still, it looks pretty slick.

you can still buy dura ace 10 speed downtube shifters...wouldn゚t they work with sram??
