CSI 58cm from Road to Flat - Handlebars!

I’ve been enjoying this cool frame after swapping over a mixed road group a few months ago. However, I have a newer bike with hydraulic disc brakes and Shimano Ultegra 2x11 for long distance road duty.

So… wanting to have a different outlet for my cycling, I decided to try out a Salsa Bend Deluxe 710mm x 23 Deg. x 31.8 Clamp (Black) flat bar on this road bike. Right now it has Vittoria Pro 25c tires but I’ve got a pair of SCHWALBE One 365 Addix 700C x 28 Road Tyre Black on order from BikeInn (seems to ship from Spain with great tire pricing) - hope they fit under that Kestral EMS Pro fork! SRAM makes an SL-700 flat bar shifter set for their 2x11 Rival 22 road derailleurs, so I got a pair. I found a new pair of Shimano Tiagra BL-4700 MTB levers. These can be set up with two different pull ratios. I had to switch them over to the caliper setting - moves the cable end closer to the fulcrum. The photos show these details. You use a small Phillips screwdriver to withdraw a tiny black screw (from the “bottom” side of each lever) and then the plastic retainer comes out. Move the cable retainer down, reinsert the plastic retainer, and screw it down. The SRAM shift levers came with bare cable installed but I found no casings in the box. Luckily, I was able to reuse my existing SRAM drop-bar derailleur casings from levers to down tube brackets on each side plus the rear derailleur. In contrast, the new Shimano levers came with new cables and casings so I used those. The levers and shifters seemed rotated a bit too low, but my hands and fingers fall naturally to grab the brakes like this. I’ll need to recheck and adjust everything after taking a short ride. Fun!
