Enve Mog

mog by moda1destroyed, on Flickr

been doin a lot of selling and buying of bikes following having my first kid, trying to get the stable right for the specific types of rides i am doing, which are sadly fewer and farther between at the moment given the circumstance.

Enve sizing seems a little different so the 54cm actually made the most sense and stack and reach numbers lined up perfectly with my 56 cervelo which fits great. and my friend just got one too so i had a chance to test ride and see the frame in person.

not too many miles on this thing but i can already tell it has that light snappy feel of a nice carbon frame. i set up the internal routing and it wasn't bad at all. just fished a shifter cable through the stem and bars and then used that to feed the brake hose. i like some of the frame details like the lunchbox (little storage compartment inside the downtube). and i like that they made it clear 700x50 so no need for 650b. overall just feels like a well thought out production carbon frame.

will report back after more miles

Awesome. These bikes look so good.

How does the handling feel compared to the Open or other gravel bikes you’ve ridden? They really raked the fork out on these which is pretty interesting.

Nice build. Looks great with the blue bits

thanks for the nice words.

i think the more raked out fork equates to a longer front center, which makes the bike feel more stable going over bumps and whatnot. i guess one thing ive been getting used to is the feeling of turning into a corner is a lot slower, and rather than steering the front end, i feel i have to focus on leaning the bike. it feels like when a fighter jet does a slow turn and and sort of falls into the turn. the opens i had were a little more road bike esque with a more predictable feel up front, but i think i'll get used to this steering thing on the mog. it'll be a plus on the chunky offroad downhills.

Any updates on the MOG?

Looking for any updates on the MOG since the last posts a little over a month ago. It’s one of the bikes on my list in trying to decide on a gravel bike purchase. It seems to be well thought out, light frame and takes 50mm tires and handles bags is you want to do some longer gravel with camping. Any further reviews any negatives? Thanks

I’ve got about 1.5k miles on mine and have loved it. It’s light, fast, blah blah blah but most of all.. it’s fun. No regrets.

I think it's great. Something about the geo is super confidence inspiring, and i've been able to clear all the hard sections i typically ride, with ease. I also think the frame details and finishing are top notch. Everything is very well thought out, as I'd expect from a frame of this pedigree and price. Unfortunately, I don't have a ton of miles on mine due to just having my first kid, but I do some action packed riding near my apartment and I have a strong sense of the bike. I am coming from an Open Wi.De which I broke and warrantied with the U.P. Those were fun bikes (particularly the Wi.De which is probably closer to the Mog in geo and design intent) but the Enve surpasses them both IMO. It feels like a different class of bike.

I’m having the same issue with my sizing, I ride a 56cm Aethos and the 54cm MOG looks like a much better fit than the 56cm. Which model Cervelo do you ride? Can’t tell, how many cm of spacers do you run on the MOG? What Enve bar and width ? How long is your seat post 300mm or 400cm? Any further ride impressions? Thanks!

I’m not wowed by the looks or colour but my lbs is a stockist and I’m booked for a morning on their demo next Monday. This is purely on the strength of absolute rave reviews from 2 guys whose opinions I regard highly. I’d probably have to sell my main road bike to fund the frameset, but given 70% of my riding time is gravel these days, I could be tempted if it’s good enough, especially if I think that with road wheels it would do adequate duty on tarmac for everything but the Tuesday chaingang.

I’ll report back next week.

Would love to ride one of these, and think they’re fantastic bikes but no cashish. One question: can you use a regular stem with these bikes? I find that stem hurts my eyes…

Yes, you can use any stem and bars, doesn’t have to be an integrated cable set up.
