I went a different route. I took Doug Fattic's class and am building my own frame. I'm getting there:

A bit more filing, brake posts, and various small braze-ons and it will be time for paint.

If you can swing it, I highly recommend it. In addition to being a first class framebuilder and painter, as most of you know, Doug is an all around great guy.

+1

I couldn't top my Bishop in steel, so maybe custom carbon. Or, something with a much bigger gas tank than mine!

Considering I JUST picked up a LLEWLYN Manorina 6 months ago, I'm always lusting/looking at N+1. So my next acquisition would most likely be a BASTION WW build with lots of high bling carbon goodies (Darimo, THM, Schmolke etc)
Also in the "mix" would be an ENGLISH, a BISHOP, a CRUMPTON, a FIREFLY and the list goes on & on & on .....
Considering I can't ride stock, all my "wish list" builds would be custom.....

I feel like a Luddite for having to ask, but who is Brian?

I'd bet it's Brian Chapman, https://www.chapmancycles.com/, who does phenomenal custom work in steel including sui generis original fabrication of parts beyond the frame itself.

I've got two bikes from Bozeman. A steel roadie and a Ti All Road.
don't lust for anything else, but would love one of these with disc brakes for the times I want to MTB (about 3 times a year)

This bike is on ebay right now; in my size. If I were in a money (and by extension, space) were no object mindset - I would buy it and built it with Super Record and Boras.

Not sure if this fits the spirit of the post, but I'd take a few months off work to do a serious frame building class.

It's not going to be as pretty, but I tend to enjoy my own screw-ups building stuff.

If it has to be a current production bike, maybe an aethos?

When you factor in the value of your time, a bike you build yourself is probably the most expensive of them all. If I were getting (which I'm not) a mass-built bike right now, it would probably also be an Aethos.
