Hi Glen, wheels should be done by Friday, Saturday.
Quote:
Disassembled, re-cleaned, greased the rear half of both sides of the inside shell, applied Loctite to the outside half of the lock ring threads.
I see the BB is already in but when using the 'far superior Italian threaded' BB, I'd use some teflon tape on the BB cups, along with grease in BB shell. And then tighten TIGHT. Aluminum cups, steel frame and loctite 'can' mean a bonded to BB shell BB. Be a good idea to grease the inside of the BB cups as well...the RH cup taps off.

AND, here we go...dry BB spindle, grease on crank bolt threads and around crank bolt washer..35 ft-lbs.

Might grease the seat bonder bolt and a wee bit 'o grease on the saddle rails. Dry wedge on the seat post.

I love this. A few questions:

Any issues working with the Italian sellers? How did they ask you to pay - did you have to deal with the foreign exchange yourself? Did they just give you an IBAN number?

How was communicating with them during the 6 month wait? Did they give you updates on where you were in the queue and so forth?

Any thoughts on the quality of the chrome work?

Thank you!!

Hi Peter, I'll file this under "tried & true assembly tips" and thank you for the wheel update!

Will try to take it apart during some down-time, I greased the inside cups before the install

Cleaned spindle and lightly greased the crank bolt threads and washers. Had too many Nuovo Record bolts that were a bear to take loose, resulted in a lot of skinned knuckles!

Howdy Eli, I went through https://ciclicorsa.com/ , the gentleman I dealt with is Matteo Greco and we exchanged emails without any issues.

I paid in full with a credit card, the price I was quoted included VAT.

Exchanged a few more emails to confirm a headset would be installed (extra charge), seat bolt binder bolt (included) and what diameter seat post was needed (27.2mm), after that I waited. The next email was when the frameset was finished and photos received. A few days later Matteo emailed that the headset was installed and was being prepped for shipping. Started getting DHL notices (the first in Italian, then English) the parcel was on it's way.

I was surprised when I saw an import duty notice from DHL when it landed at the Southern CA distribution center. I paid it and the frame was delivered the next week!

So yeah I had faith Cicli Corsa was going to come thru, I saw a few good reports before ordering.

Thank you, super helpful. This definitely seems like a good option for a relatively affordable classic lugged road bike. I wish they made it with a BSA BB shell, though.

I've got a modern era Super Corsa, white. In the category of modern lugged steel Euro road bikes, I've had a Merckx MXL, a Merckx Corsa 01, a Merckx Corsa, a Bianchi Specialissima, a Pinarello Montello (?), a Basso something, and certainly others I'm forgetting.

The bianca Super Corsa is the best riding bike of the bunch and the last one I've held on to. Alas, I'm trying to pare things down and will offer it up when I get a moment, but these are stellar bikes and I hope you enjoy yours as much as it deserves to be enjoyed.

Missed your last question. The chrome seems to be as good as anyone's. No file or sanding marks. Buffed out to a nice luster. The rear brake mounting surface was left chromed:

I've had 2 bikes with chrome lugs and stays before this, a Schwinn Paramount and an Italvega Nuovo Record. The Italvega had sort of a Cinelli influence with the chromed lugs and sloping fork crown. Would've liked the fork on the Cinelli to be all chrome since the rear stays are mostly chromed. It's growing on me the way it is now tho.

Found out that the rear wheel of the set of Campagnolo Neutrons is a basket case. I took it to the local bike shop to get it trued. A spoke broke with the first touch of the spoke wrench. All of the spokes in the area that was misaligned were bent maybe from being dropped or crashed. A new set of Campagnolo spokes would cost a fortune and I would still have an old hub. Decided to shelve it for now. oldpotatoe is building up a new wheelset for me with Bitex hubs and Kinlin rims. Can't wait!

Changed the tires to Vittoria gum wall. Trying out Vittoria latex tubes for good measure:

He built it up with a Shimano 600 rear derailleur, 6-speed freewheel and early index downtube shifters. Most of the other components were 1st generation Super Record and Dia-Compe aero brake levers. I overhauled and changed it last year to Shimano 105 derailleurs, 8-speed cassette, indexed dt shifters, Shimano pedals, Phil Wood bottom bracket and Campy Chorus brakes. I tell my brother I'm only taking care of it for him and he can get it anytime whenever he feels like riding again!

Beautiful DeRosa, and I've never seen that colorway. If you/your brother ever decide it's time to let it go to another home it looks like he and I ride the identical size bike--give me a shout!

Wow! very nice. Does Stelbel make these for Cinelli? It came in a Stelbel box. An Old Potatoe wheelset - I have one about five years old and it's still perfectly true!!

Man, I love just about everything this bike and the build.

And I don't mean this as a backhanded compliment at all: I love the impefection in the paint. Like every Italian frame from the 80s the paint is not exactly fastidious, which I took as a cue not to worry about beating the bike up, that it's fine to throw it in the back of the team car, and OK to ride in the rain and not wipe down incessantly post ride. Bikes aren't meant to last forevery, even ones as sweet as this.
