2022 Cinelli Supercorsa

Ordered in Jan, delivered by the DHL delivery man in July. I've dreamed of having one ever since I started racing in the 70's and after seeing my pal's Supercorsa about 16 years ago that clinched it. Watched evilbay for a few years and figured hey, just buy a new one after reading about another forum member's successful experience ordering direct from Italy.

Since the date of ordering, I gathered all of the necessary components to build it up from online dealers and evilbay. Going for a retro classic look, mostly silver components, mostly Campagnolo with a few concessions like Shimano Ultegra pedals.

Decided on decking it out with a classic look which is familiar to me but with modern amenities, 10speed cassette, sealed bottom bracket, clipless pedals, yada-yada. Trying downtube friction/ratchet shifting with a set of Campy Chorus 10sp index shifting/brake levers on standby in case the dt shifters present any problem.

Delivery day:

Schweet!

Nothing better than NBD (New Bike Day)! Looking forward to seeing the build.

Congrats on the gorgeous bike! A little surprised to see it’s built in SL (nttawwt) , my ‘89 is SLX. Nice DeRosa too! We have similar taste in bikes.

That is almost too erotic to be banned! Something about a "real" Cinelli.

I bought circa 1972 all record in decent shape, but no room at the inn, so wife didn't want it around the house.

This would be the new SL, so "Omnicrom" DB made for lugs, rather than the old SL which was Cyclex.

The Omnicrom family is Spirit, Spirit HSS, Max, SL and Life.

Someone who knows more could likely say something about butts and weight--but it is definitely a more robust material.

Thanks! I'm sort of a bike "steward" of the DeRosa. It came to me from my brother who stopped riding years ago. He sent in his seat tube and top tube measurement and had a friend pick up the completed frameset in Italy at the factory. That was in the mid to late 70's. He built it up with a Shimano 600 rear derailleur, 6-speed freewheel and early index downtube shifters. Most of the other components were 1st generation Super Record and Dia-Compe aero brake levers. I overhauled and changed it last year to Shimano 105 derailleurs, 8-speed cassette, indexed dt shifters, Shimano pedals, Phil Wood bottom bracket and Campy Chorus brakes. I tell my brother I'm only taking care of it for him and he can get it anytime whenever he feels like riding again!

The black looks amazing! I was expecting a brand new SR group, so major points for DT shifters and alloy cranks!

I love how they took the time and effort to insert a nice, simple, dropout spacer!

Nice touch that seems all too frequently overlooked, or somehow deemed unnecessary.

Cleaned the bottom bracket threads with paint thinner and used a fine pick and tiny flat blade screwdriver to remove the little beads of brazing? debris that was scattered and stuck in between the threads. Don't have a threaded tap that big, so I improvised:

Used a razor blade to gently scrape both outer edges of the bb:

Ran the greased bb lock rings into the bb to clear out the threads. Disassembled, re-cleaned, greased the rear half of both sides of the inside shell, applied Loctite to the outside half of the lock ring threads.
Bottom bracket installed and tightened to Campy spec 70N-m (or 51.63ft-lb), :

Found a real nice torque wrench for a reasonable price on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002LA19P2...t_details&th=1

Reportedly made by Snap-on without the Snap-on price! Very well made, feels like a quality tool. I have a cheapie torque wrench from Harbor Freight but decided to take no chances on boogering up this step:

That's a Pedro's bottom bracket/cassette lock ring bit chucked into a 15/16" socket and 3/8" to 1/2" drive adapter, worked like a charm:

Dropped the seat post and saddle in, installed/adjusted the headset, greased and installed stem. Put a set of wheels on, it's starting to take shape!:
