I'm coming out of it but I was listening to an album called "The Wave" by a Nashville band called Los Colognes a real lot the last 2-3 weeks.

It got to the point I worked with my guitar teacher to transcribe a couple of the songs off the album and learned pretty much all the guitar parts.

They are normally semi-Americana (which is a great style) but this album is a mash-up of dire straits, grateful dead, and pink floyd. It's got an 80s sound with a lot of the chugging 16th note rhythms that sound like some of the tunes off the "Brothers in Arms" album by Dire Straits but then the lead singer layers extra rhythm guitar riffs and sparse soling on top.. the extra rhythm parts can be slightly reminescent of Bob Weir but cut down, and some of the solo stuff is an homage to Gilmour or Knopfler.. none of it is fingerpicked though so it's not really that close to Dire Straits. It's probably easiest to hear the Pink Floyd influences.

It's worth checking out if you can still appreciate 80s style sounds.

And now I'm off learning Dire Straits stuff...

Neil Young - Needle And The Damage Done. Could not get it out of my head on the ride today. No reason why.

They're on my "To See" list someday, for sure.

Propaganda, performing Dream Within A Dream from their Secret Wish album circa mid-80s, in 2011. The album was basically Edgar Allen Poe poems put to music. Dream Within A Dream is one such poem.

The video. The girl on percussion is having way too much fun.

Artscape? I haven't been there in a couple of decades, but I don't remember ever seeing them. My loss. I live not too far from Baltimore - an easy commute.

It can be brutally hot that time of year, however. Downtown, mid summer, all that asphalt and brick absorbing and radiating all of that heat...
